Take-Two Doesn't Need GTA 6 Because GTA 5 is Still Making Millions

Thanks to Take-Two's financial report, we've learned that Grand Theft Auto 5 sales have surpassed 165 million copies.

Take-Two Interactive has released the financial results report for the first quarter of this year, as well as a summary for the past fiscal year, the period from April 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022.

GTA 5 continues to sell brilliantly

The report wouldn't be complete without the results of GTA 5.

  1. Grand Theft Auto V sales have surpassed 165 million copies. This means that an additional 5 million units of the game have been sold since the previous quarterly report.
  2. However, this impressive result is a bit disappointing. GTA 5's results have been increasing by 5 million every quarter for a long time, but this time some analysts were expecting a bigger increase due to the release of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions.

Results of Take-Two Interactive's other games

GTA 5 is the company's biggest hit, but not the only one.

  1. NBA 2K22 sales have exceeded 10 million copies, which means the game is doing slightly better than the previous installment of the series in the same period after release.
  2. In the first quarter of the year Red Dead Redemption 2 found an additional million buyers, bringing the game's total sales to 44 million units.
  3. In the case of WWE 2K22 no specific numbers were provided, but it was reported that in the first four weeks of its release the game did much better than the previous two installments.
  4. The company is also pleased with the results of Tiny Tina's Wonderlands. Here, too, no details were shared, but the game was the best debut of Take-Two's new series in many years. Interestingly, almost 30% of the game's buyers had not previously played any installment of Borderlands.

Take-Two's revenues and profits

Take-Two's games are selling well, but the financial report also contains bad information. The publisher's revenues are growing all the time, but there were declines in profits.

  1. In the first quarter of 2022, revenue was $930 million (up 11%), and profits were $111 million (down 49%).
  2. For the period April 1, 2021 - March 31,2022, revenues were $3.51 billion (up 4%) and profits were $418 million (down 29%).
