The Elder Scrolls 6 is called "Redfall", trademark suggests

"Redfall" may be the official subtitle for The Elder Scrolls VI game, a new trademark owned by Bethesda's proprietor suggests. But even though it does make sense for a variety of reasons, confirmation is yet to come.

ZeniMax Media, the owner of Bethesda Game Studios, has just filed a trademark for a piece of intellectual property called “Redfall.” It has something to do, the descriptions reads, with “computer game software for use with computers and video game consoles” and “entertainment services, namely, providing on-line interactive computer games”. Bottom line: it’s related to computer entertainment. And it sounds a lot like just the name for The Elder Scrolls VI, announced during this year’s E3.

This is what it’s all about.

If that’s the case, it wouldn’t be the first time Bethesda used the -fall suffix. 1997 The Elder Scrolls game was titled Daggerfall. And that very mountainy landscape featured in the TES VI’s teaser trailer? It looks a lot like Hammerfell (a province of Tamriel many fans are speculating to be the most suitable setting for the next TES game. It’s also home for REDguards). More in “speculation”: the description mentions “on-line interactive computer games”. So unless it’s just legal jargon applied to every IP falling into the “games” category, “Redfall” may have something to do with The Elder Scrolls Online. But then again, it just might be a preventive measure, put in place so that no one can apply the trademark to anything gaming-related. The possibilities, then, are quite a few.

Insert “see that mountain?” joke.

Meanwhile Bethesda remains silent. And they probably will for some time. The Elder Scrolls VI has a long way to go as it’s still in the conceptual stage of development. In a nearer-but-still-distant future we should see the release of Starfield. The Elder Scrolls VI: Redfall (?) will probably follow, perhaps launching on a new generation of consoles.
