For now, the fans of Amanda Ripley will have to make do with the mobile Alien: Blackout.

ALIEN: BLACKOUT IN A NUTSHELL:

  3. Genre: adventure
  4. Platforms: iOS, AND
  5. Business model: premium
  6. Release date: January 24, 2019.

A few days ago, the fans of the Alien franchise faced a big disappointment when it turned out that Alien: Blackout will be a mobile game. As the community’s reaction was negative, the brand owners decided they had to calm down the situation quickly, and ensured that it was not the only game they were planning to develop. The statement revived the hope that we could get a full-fledged sequel to the excellent Alien: Isolation. Unfortunately, it turns out that the glimpse of hope was short lived.

This bad news turned up in an interview for Variety given by TQ Jefferson, Vice-President of FoxNext (20th Century Fox's film division, which deals with interactive entertainment). He stated, and explicitly, that Alien: Isolation 2 is not in production. Additionally, we should not expect a new film set in the universe in the near future. Alien: Blackout was conceived as a stand-alone project and not as part of a movie marketing campaign.

Negative reception of Alien: Blackout is compared to the community’s reaction to Diablo Immortal. TQ Jefferson, however, is convinced that his project will eventually meet with a warm reception, as it will be a premium production without any micropayments.

It should be noted, that Alien: Blackout is not the only game from the Alien universe that is currently in development. Cold Iron is working on shooter with MMO elements for PC and consoles. So far not much is known about this project, but it is speculated that it will be a game in the vein of the Destiny series and the upcoming Anthem.

And finally, just to remind you, Alien: Blackout is coming mobile devices with iOS and Android systems. The game will be released on January 24, this year.
