Two Sitting US Congresswomen Host One of the Largest Twitch Streams Ever

New York Congressional representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her “ride or die” Ilhan Omar, representative of Minnesota, streamed Among Us and reached over 400k viewers.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, aka AOC, a representative in US Congress, managed to reach a peak of over four hundred thousand viewers on Twitch while streaming Among Us. Miss Ocasio-Cortez originally tweeted out the idea on Monday, and by the next day, several prominent streamers along with her fellow representative from Minnesota, Ilhan Omar, came together to make it happen.

Featuring some of the platform's top streamers like Pokimane and HasanAbi, the stream quickly became one of the top twenty streams with the highest peak viewers. She also received a lot of support from the community with people sending her streaming tech and making art for graphics well ahead of the stream time.

The stream was all in good fun, but also focused on encouraging fellow US residents to vote and vote early. This of course resulted in several humorous moments when the group was trying to vote out an impostor.

Perhaps one of the best highlights from the stream was in the very beginning when AOC mentioned several times that she didn’t want to be impostor, only to immediately be impostor in the first round.

During a critical moment in AOC’s impostor round, her friend and fellow representative, Ilhan Omar, claimed she could not vote her out, even with the evidence stacked against her. “She’s my ride or die!” AOC told her viewers.

The congresswoman’s Twitch channel now has over half a million followers, making her overnight success quite apparent. Surely it’s comforting to know that if all else fails, she has a promising career in streaming.

Perhaps this won’t be the last Twitch sees of AOC, and it might also mean that grassroots political movements could see the potential of emerging media platforms like Twitch. Only time will tell.

In case you missed it the entire stream is still viewable on her Twitch channel.
