How do I unlock access to the Crater Lake?

The Crater Lake region will only be unlocked after you make significant progress in the main storyline of Days Gone - Days Gone: Crater Lake - map, important locations - Crater Lake region maps - Days Gone Guide

The Crater Lake region will only be unlocked after you make significant progress in the main storyline of Days Gone. Deacon must decide to go south in search of Sarah. You can't start this journey alone, even if in the Iron Butte region you will get to the tunnel leading to Crater Lake. Iron Mike has to show Deacon the way to the Crater Like in the Riding NOMAD Again mission.

Before the trip the game is going to warn you that you won't be able to return to Lost Lake and all other places that have been explored so far for a pretty long time. Read more about this constraint and the trip on a separate page of our guide called How to unlock all regions of the map?.

  2. 2 NERO Checkpoints
  3. 5 NERO Research Sites

  5. 2 Infestations

In addition, you can engage in burning nests of crows. They are located in different parts of the region and the game marks them on the map.

Below are the details of the main locations from the Crater Lake region.

Diamond Lake

Diamond Lake is the first ally camp you are going to visit in the Crater Lake region - Days Gone: Crater Lake - map, important locations - Crater Lake region maps - Days Gone Guide

Diamond Lake is the first ally camp you are going to visit in the Crater Lake region. This camp is being managed by its leader - Derrick Kouri. You will find all the "attractions" that can be expected from the camp. We recommend you to pay special attention to the mechanics in the camp, which puts up for sale the best motorcycle parts in the game. A full description of Diamond Lake camp can be found in the Encampments section of our guide.

Wizard Island

Wizard Island - is the second friendly camp that can be visited in the Crater Lake region - Days Gone: Crater Lake - map, important locations - Crater Lake region maps - Days Gone Guide

Wizard Island - is the second friendly camp that can be visited in the Crater Lake region. This position is governed by colonel Garrett. Two bridges lead to the camp - North bridge and South bridge. The camp itself is a very extensive place - Deacon can visit various traders (among others) the merchant of best weapons from the whole game), as well as look inside the mountain (called by Garrett the Ark) and climb to the top, where the Colonel's tent is located. A complete description of the Wizard Islands camp can be found in the Encampments section of our guide.

NERO Research Site (Point 1)

NERO Research Site can be found during the Leave All That by the Door mission - Days Gone: Crater Lake - map, important locations - Crater Lake region maps - Days Gone Guide

NERO Research Site can be found during the Leave All That by the Door mission. As a reminder, this task concerns the search of a mine located north-west of Diamon Lake in orded to find cinnabar. The entrance to the mine is unlocked by pushing the vehicle (image above). After completing the mission objectives do not leave the mine, just continue to explore it. One of the steps leads to the mobile base, where you will find a white box with an Injector. Of course, you can return to the mine later in the game if needed.

NERO Research Site (Points 6)

The research point is located on a small island to the south-east of the Wizard Islands camp - Days Gone: Crater Lake - map, important locations - Crater Lake region maps - Days Gone Guide

The research point is located on a small island to the south-east of the Wizard Islands camp. Don't try to get there, because Deacon will drown before he gets to the island. The solution to this problem, fortunately, is relatively simple - you need to drive your motorcycle on the small springboard shown in the image (it is located south of the island). Be sure to use nitro to extend the flight and not to land on a motorcycle in deep water. Explore a small island to find a helicopter crash site, chest with Injector and an audio recording.

NERO Research Site (Point 10)

This NERO Research Site is at the western end of the Crater Lake region - Days Gone: Crater Lake - map, important locations - Crater Lake region maps - Days Gone Guide

This NERO Research Site is at the western end of the Crater Lake region. It is necessary to climb and get to the camp in the mountains as shown in the image. Be careful while doing so, cause a horde of Freakers may be wandering nearby.
