How do I unlock access to Highway 97?
The Highway 97 region is unlocked in parallel with the Crater Lake region. To remind you, Deacon comes to the southern part of the world map after he decides to find Sarah, and after that Iron Mike helps him in finding the passage to the souther part of the game's world. Expedition to the south takes place during the NOMAD Riding Again story mission. Information about important locations in the Highway 97 region
During your stay in the Highway 97 region, you can visit:
- 2 NERO Checkpoints
- 4 NERO Research Site
- 2 Ambush Camps
- 2 Infestations
In addition, you can engage in burning nests of crows. They are located in different parts of the region and the game marks them on the map.
Below are the details of the main areas of the Highway 97 region.
Chemult Community College
Chemult Community College - is the largest additional location in the region of Highway 97. Unfortunately, you cannot enter or drive in the school grounds as the entire campus is tightly closed. You need to wait until you advance enough in the game and get the So Many of Them story mission. This task involves visiting the campus in search of important equipment, and only from the moment of its completion you may gain access to school (even in your free time).
It is worth noting that at the campus there is also an Infestation and NERO Checkpoint. Also, in this phase of the campaign, a Horde of Freakers will appear in this area, so great caution is recommended.
NERO Research Site (Point 1)
NERO Research Site is located on the Eastern shore behind the water. This is an area in the south-east of the Chemult Community College. Don't try to get there, because Deacon will drown before he gets to the other side. The solution to this problem is to use a motorcycle. Set the bike on the road north-west of the research site. Go to the south and drive ahead with nitro ON through the trampoline as shown in the image. This will allow you to jump over the water and land on the first island.
That's not all, because you need to perform the second jump. You can do this without stopping or turning around on the first island to gain acceleration momentum. After the second jump, you can easily get to the wreckage of the helicopter and NERO mobile base.
