Release Date: May 30, 2025
A spin-off of the best-selling Elden Ring, offering action RPG and extraction game mechanics similar to Dark and Darker. Elden Ring: Nightreign allows for singleplayer, but was made primarily for online co-op for up to 3 people. The main goal of the game is to survive a 3-day cycle featuring boss fights.
Elden Ring: Nightreign is a spin-off of the best-selling Elden Ring souls game. The game was developed by FromSoftware studio, and its release was handled by Bandai Namco Entertainment. This time, the authors prepared an action RPG with gameplay ideas reminiscent of extraction games like Dark and Darker or Dungeonborne.
In Elden Ring: Nightreign we view the events from a third-person perspective (TPP). The game provides us with characters varied in terms of combat skills.
During the game, we traverse Limveld and fight against opponents, collecting better equipment along the way. As we progress, the map gradually becomes smaller, and as the night draws to a close, we come face to face with a powerful boss.
The victory allows us to continue the cycle until the culminating battle with the chosen Nightlord. However, if we fall on the battlefield, we lose the spoils we have gained. Both the appearance of the land and the enemies lurking for us, as well as the rewards prepared for our characters, are constantly changing. Death forces us to start gathering equipment from scratch, but there are also permanent upgrades in the form of relics.
Elden Ring: Nightreign can be played solo. Nevertheless, the game was prepared primarily for multiplayer and online co-op with other players.
The action of Elden Ring: Nightreign takes place in a universe parallel to the world of the main game. We take on the role of the so-called Nightfarers, who venture from Roundtable Hold to the land of Limveld. There, they must survive a three-day cycle and at the end of each night they have to face a powerful boss. Surviving the cycle is worth it, as subsequent victories bring not only glory, but also rewards that allow the heroes to face increasingly powerful Nightlords.

Elden Ring: Nightreign offers a fast-paced gameplay and a return to the kind of raw challenge I’ve come to love in soulslikes. And that’s exactly what I wanted, the more time I spent with Nightreign, the more I found myself enjoying it.

While AI is becoming omnipresent, it still struggles with specific, niche topics. Elden Ring is definitely one of those, which are hard to comprehend by Artificial Intelligence. As a result, comical situations can happen, for example AI trying to incorporate community's memes into the official lore.

Dexerto: 4 / 5 by Joe Pring
After Elden Ring set the bar impossibly high for what's expected of open-world RPGs, Nightreign delivers a fantastic accompaniment to FromSoftware's core portfolio. It's unafraid to turn the established Souls formula on its head and ask if it can mesh well with other genres. While the answer is a resounding yes, Nightreign won't be for everyone. For series veteran fans with no interest in multiplayer, it's a hard sell. Solo play is an officially supported mode, but it feels much like an afterthought. Played with the intended group size, however, Nightreign is an irresistible co-op experience with far more depth than I expected.
GameLuster: 8 / 10 by Mateusz Niewierowski
It may be missing some build depth or profoundness, but to have a bite-sized piece of Elden Ring that I can jump into whenever I want is a treasure worth the price.
WellPlayed: 8 / 10 by James Wood
A fascinating precursor to FromSoftware's multiplayer pivot, Elden Ring: Nightreign offers us a glimpse at the thrills, and pitfalls, of adapting the studio's signature style to meet contemporary standards. Propulsively fun gameplay loops and a killer art direction gently usher in one of the least considered efforts from the studio to date.
