New World is a MMORPG developed by Amazon Game Studios. The game takes us to a vast, open world inspired by the aesthetics and atmosphere of the 17th-century South American colonies and the beliefs of people who lived there. We can focus on playing alone or join forces with other players. It is up to us to retake areas overrun by monsters in order to establish new villages. We can craft new tools and weapons, farm, or even try to survive in the wilderness where we will have to face not only monsters but also bandits. New World focuses on the community, which can be seen in the game's integration with Twitch. The game is based on technology created specifically for its needs, which allowed for the creation of a highly detailed environment with advanced character models and particle effects.

GreedFall is another RPG developed by the studio Spiders with the help from Focus Home Interactive. GreedFall is set in a original universe stylized after the 17th century United States. The game takes place on an island where people live in harmony with nature and the supernatural. Things get complicated when the colonists arrive. Our protagonist ends up right in the middle of the conflict between the natives and the colonial forces. Gameplay does not differ that much from what we could see in the previous games developed by Spiders - we will fight with the encountered enemies. In combat, we will mostly use cold steel weapons. Pistols, muskets, and magic are secondary. Exploration and crafting also play a crucial role in the game. There are many possible ways we can choose when approaching oppositions (diplomacy, open fights, sneaking).

A tactical real-time strategy game inspired by the Commandos series. Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun is set in Japan in 1615. The new shogun decided to enforce peace in the entire country which requires him to silently eliminate all the opposition that may dream of rebelling against him. To achieve this, he asks a group of five specialists who deal in murder, sabotage, and espionage. It is the team that the player will lead in the course of the campaign that consists of over a dozen extensive missions. In Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun, the action is presented from a camera placed high above the characters’ heads which provides us with a good grasp of the environment and lets us efficiently issue orders to our agents. Since they perform risky tasks on enemy territory, it is necessary to stay out of guards’ sight and act stealthily. Maps were designed in a way that allows for any mission to be completed in various ways. To succeed, the player always has to cunningly use the unique skills of every character and devise plans that involve strict cooperation within the party.

Simulation 13 June 2019
An online sailing simulator developed by the Ukrainian developer, Game-Labs, whose members worked previously on the STALKER and Total War series. The action of the game is set between the sixteenth and the eighteenth century - a period within the so-called Age of Sail. The gameplay focuses on the exploration of the enormous game world, where the players can trade, take assignments, and participate in realistic sea battles. The game features faithfully recreated weapons from the period, including various types of cannons, mortars, and carronades. One of the game's characteristic, and very realistic, features is the ship handling, as the player can control each sail separately and the crew management is also rather complex. The visuals are powered by the Unity engine, which makes the game look better than one could expect. Also, the creators' dedication to recreate the ships as authentic as possible deserves praise.

In comparison to the original game, the gameplay mechanics of Age of Empires III: Definite Edition remained unchanged. The game still focuses on managing a settlement by gathering resources, constructing new buildings, discovering new areas of the map and leading selected nation through various ages. Fighting enemy is an important aspect of the game – the battles are fought by infantry, cavalry, siege machines and powerful artillery. Moreover, the game features a set of five individual missions that recreate the key battles in Europe in the 17th and 18th century. Furthermore, Days of Brilliance extends the list of playable factions with two new ones, letting us lead Danish and Dutch armies (available for all owners of the vanilla Cossacks 3). Both have their own unique buildings, units, and musical themes. The DLC also enriches the remaining nations with a few new units.

RPG 19 June 2015
A unique MMORPG in a gothic horror setting. It takes place in 17th century in New England, with players acting as colonists who must create a well-functioning settlement. We start by simply trying to survive and gathering resources, but as our community develops, it becomes necessary to join forces with other players and expand onto new territories, filled with various monsters. Those we fight either with conventional methods or with alchemy and magic. Each character is described and developed through a mechanic based on the Hippocrates’ system of four fluids that are within human’s body. Virtual world and its economy are entirely shaped by players’ actions, and the game has a high difficulty level. Characters defeated and killed by other players can’t be resurrected, forcing its owner to create a new hero and start from scratch.
30 Years' War
Strategy 03 September 2015
A turn-based strategy game, developed by The Headquarter – a Spanish studio known for Espana 1936. When it comes to mechanics, we are left with a complex, old-school strategy game, employing a simultaneously-executed turn system, and placing a lot of emphasis on faithful recreation of 17th century Europe and its style of conducting warfare. During the game, our mind is preoccupied not only with warfare, but also with conscripting armies and our country’s economy and diplomacy.
