60,000 Bans in CoD: Warzone in Response to Cheater Deluge

Call of Duty: Warzone is in serious crisis because of cheaters spoiling the fun. Players complain about the lack of anti-cheat and lack of response from the devs. Reacting to community criticism, the developers banned 60 thousand cheaters.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  • Call of Duty: Warzone goes through a crisis due to large number of hackers. The players complain about lack of good security;
  • Due to the plague of cheaters, CoD: Warzone is being abandoned by well-known influencers;
  • In response to community accusations, the devs banned 60 thousand cheaters.

This is not the first time, Call of Duty: Warzone is getting bad publicity due to dishonest players. Youtubers, streamers and e-sportsmen are leaving the popular battle royale game. The title is struggling with cheaters almost from the very release, and while it can not be said that Activision Blizzard doesn't do anything in this regard, you get the impression that hackers are always one step ahead of the powerful company.

Helplessness of the developers in the fight against cheaters is best illustrated by the fact that some feel so brazen that they stream their actions on websites such as Twitch or Facebook Gaming. The huge number of cheaters on servers forces some players to abandon the game. Popular youtuber Vikkstar, who made a name for himself in CoD: Warzone, published a video on his channel, in which he pointed out the absurdities associated with hackers in the title and announced that he quit playing. He stated that Warzone has never been in such a bad state, and there are people using "aids" in almost every lobby.

Vikkstar is not alone in his opinion. Many streamers and youtubers who create Warzone content speak in a similar tone. Streamer Nickmercs from FaZe Clan said that given the current situation, without proper anti-cheat measure, it is impossible to conduct fair tournaments in CoD: Warzone.

This finally led to a reaction from Raven Software - the developers responsible for the title. Nearly 60 thousand players have been banned for cheating, and the game introduced new security systems, including:

  • Weekly security updates;
  • Improved reporting mechanics;
  • Adding two-step account authentication.

This action, while not solving the problem completely, is seen by the Warzone community as a step in the right direction that will make life harder for cheaters. The full list of security updates can be found here.
