Dark and Darker – How to get ore

You cannot extract ore without pickaxe. It is a utility type item. You can buy it from Weaponsmith before the game. It costs 25 gold coins. You must then equip it in the utility slot to use it.

Once you have the pickaxe, you have to look for the Cobalt and Rubysilver ore. You will find it in various places, so you will have to be lucky. If you have a pickaxe with you, you should be able to dig up ore (default key F).

Dark and Darker – What ore is needed for

You can use ore at merchants in the Service tab:

1. Weaponsmith and Armourer can make a Rubysilver and Cobalt ingot from ore. These items can currently be forged into armour at Armourer (although Weaponsmith's ability to create ingots suggests that there will also be weapons made from this material in the future). Such armour is suitable for Fighter, Cleric and Barbarian (depending on the item).
2. The Alchemist can create Rubysilver and Cobalt powder. This item can be exchanged at Tailor for clothing. It can be worn by all classes (depending on the item). The powder is also used by Leathersmith. He also can create armour from it. It can be worn by all classes (depending on the item).

Where is Cobalt and Rubysilver ore in Dark and Darker [UPDATE]

1. Rubysilver ore – you can find this resource most often in the northwest and southwest corners of the map. It is also occasionally closer to the centre, but the above-presented dungeon edges are the best place to start looking. Of course, this does bring problems - once the game area starts to shrink, these locations become inaccessible. You should therefore look for Rubysilver preferably at the beginning of the game.
2. Cobalt ore – this deposit seems to be more difficult to track down. However, it is definitely most often found near the centre of dungeons. It is there, therefore, that you should look for it.
3. Goblin Caves – the new map in Dark and Darker is also a very good place to find Rubysilver and Cobalt ore. Very often these resources appear in the south-west corner of the map.
