Dirty Spots Are Definitely Not The Black PS5 Users Hoped For

Some owners of Sony's next-gen platform report strange, dirty spots on their console. Worse still, the dirt cannot always be removed.

IN A NUTSHELL:

  1. Some PS5 users report that strange spots have appeared on their consoles;
  2. Some people managed to wipe them off, but for others, they seem to be a discoloration of the device's case caused by too much heat, for example.

Some PlayStation 5 users report that their console get dirty very easily. There have been a number of posts on Reddit with pictures of ugly spots on the case. It's noteworthy that authors of some of the posts suggest that the blotches appeared after just one gaming session.

It is hard to say where exactly the dirt comes from. What's worse, it's not always easy to get rid of these stains. Some people managed to wash them off with a wet cloth - in their opinion PS5 simply attracted dust from the area. Others were less fortunate and suggest that their device has suffered discolouration on the case itself, which may be related to e.g. problems with the cooling system (or keeping the device in an insufficiently airy place).

"I've only logged maybe 6 hours total of play time. The console also hasn't moved from my desk top since it came out of the box. My biggest concern is the console overheating to the point of discoloring/scorching the case. Has anyone heard of this issue coming up? I really have no other explanation for it. And not that I think it needs to be said, but I don't have dirty hands or something lol. The controller is still a very crisp white.

EDIT** Just popped off the outer panel. Definitely looks like a heating issue."

Admittedlt, the dirt doesn't look very good (many fans will probably curse Sony again at this point for not thinking about a darker version of the console). It remains to be hoped that in most cases this is just plain dirt, and not a harbinger of more serious problems with the PS5.
