The official announcement of Elden Ring, the latest game from From Software, was one of the most talked about moments of Thursday's Summer Game Fest. The publisher, Bandai Namco, shared some interesting details about the title, which will have the release on January 21, 2022.
The work developed in collaboration with George R.R. Martin is the largest game to date from the devs of the Dark Souls series. The world of Elden Ring is huge and the player will be able to move freely around it. However, the game will continue the tradition started by the Souls series, namely the locations will be closely connected to each other, so exploration can provide the knowledge of necessary shortcuts and secret paths.
For the first time a From Software game will have a system of dynamically changing weather. In previous titles, for example Dark Souls or Bloodborne, such factors as time of day or moon phases were determined by a script. In Elden Ring weather conditions will be variable, but it is not known whether this will have a greater impact on the gameplay.
From Software's latest game, Sekiro, had a pre-determined protagonist. In the upcoming title, the character creator will return. In addition, as in many previous works of the studio, we will encounter NPCs with a rich past on our way. They can either help the player in his or her journey or become another obstacle to overcome.
Elden Ring will be coming to PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Series X|S. The players who purchase the title on PS4 or Xbox One and later acquire of a next-gen console will receive the corresponding update for free.
