Even Elden Ring's Director Has No Idea Where the Game's Phenomenon Comes From

Elden Ring has achieved incredible commercial success, and it's undeniably one of the best-selling titles of this year. However, Hidetaka Miyazaki has no idea how this happened.

There's no denying it, Elden Ring is an incredible hit and the game sells exceptionally well. The publisher's latest reports (from November) indicate that the game by FromSoftware has hit the hands of 17.5 million players. However, as it turns out, the title's creator himself - Hidetaka Miyazaki - does not know how this happened.

On December 2 we saw the PlayStation Partner Awards 2022 gala, during which Elden Ring received two awards - from the audience and for being the best-selling game produced in Asia. During the event, Miyazaki gave an interview to Famitsu. The game's creative director admitted on that occasion that he doesn't know the reason for its success.

"To be honest, I have been unable to analyze it thoroughly. It is true that sales are high, but what is the reason? I don't know yet. Even if you ask me why - I don't want to change the way I work. I also try not to think about it too much, because it could distract me from my next project."

Elden Ring still has a chance to win some awards. After all, in a few days we will witness The Game Awards 2022 gala, and the title is nominated in seven categories - including for game of the year.
