Intel: New Tiger Lake CPU in Mid-year

Intel remains financially successful despite the crisis. Revenues increased by 23% compared to the same period last year.

Intel's higher profits mainly from the gaming segment

According to the official report, Intel's revenue in the first quarter of 2020 was $19.8 billion. A year earlier, it was $16.1 billion. Net profit in Q1 2020 was USD 5.7 billion, compared to USD 4 billion the year before. Intel generated such good results despite the coronavirus pandemic crisis. It proves how important technology is in our times.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  1. Intel has again achieved success with 23% revenue growth in Q1 2020;
  2. The financial statements also informed of the planned mid-year release of Tiger Lake CPUs.

The bulk of Intel's revenue was generated by the PC (including gaming) sector. Here, the difference compared to 2019 was +14% (USD 9.8 billion in 2020). This is mainly due to the introduction of the 10th generation H-series processors in gaming notebooks. Intel Data Center Group recorded 43% more revenue, mainly due to the good reception of the new Xeon processors. Operating revenue increased by 69% and profits by 42% (to $5.7 billion).

Quite an interesting piece of information, perhaps more interesting than the financial results, are the reports of new processors for mobile and desktop devices. These could be seen at some point in Intel's presentation. One of the slides included information about the launch of the Tiger Lake series of CPUs in the middle of this year. The term may mean August, referring to the source mentioned by TechPowerup.

This most likely confirms the new generation of processors manufactured in 10 nm lithography, with "Willow Cove" cores. They will also have new GPUs and an improved input/output bus. Let's hope that Intel will realize its response to stationary AMD chips in 7nm lithography around August. This would definitely help maintain the company's current good financial performance.
