No More Account Family Drama as FIFA 21 Introduces Expense Control

FIFA 21 introduced a new function. From now on, it will be possible to check and limit the time spent in the game and money spent on microtransactions on PC (and soon also on consoles).

The issue of expenses in EA Sports' games has been raised very often in recent years, usually in the context of extreme cases or, as recently, subsequent lawsuits and various controversies. Perhaps that's why the developers decided to give players a little more control over how they spend their time and money in FIFA games. A recent update for FIFA 21 introduced a feature called FIFA PlayTime, which enables us to track and control our activity in the game. When enabled in 'Config', the option is available from the main menu, FUT and Volta Football on PCs, but will also be available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One from November 17 (Switch was not mentioned). Game Time will also appear in FIFA 21 on PS5 and XSX/S, along with the title's debut on these platforms (December 4).

Once PlayTime is enabled, we can check a handful of statistics on our habits in FIFA 21, including time spent in the game (both offline and online), matches played in all modes, FUT packs purchased (minus the prizes), and FIFA points received and purchased (without conversion to money). We can also set weekly limits for matches, FUT packs and FIFA Points, all of which can also be checked in the mobile apps associated with FIFA 21.

The new feature is another action as part of EA's Positive Play initiative. Earlier, the company published rules for battling toxic behavior in its games, announcing the fight against impersonation, account sales, vulgarisms, etc. PlayTime, on the other hand, is intended to enable players or their parents to avoid situations where they invest far too much time in football fever and, last but not least, spend too much money in the game. Of course, the presence of such an option is one thing, and its effectiveness in practice is another. Especially when there are voices about supposed encouraging (or even almost forcing) spending in FUT mode with the help of officially unused mechanics.
