Minecraft 20w46a Adds New, Better Snow From Caves & Cliffs Update

Minecraft received another snapshot with new features from Caves & Cliffs. Snapshot 20w46a adds snow dust, freezing as an affliction and a handful of changes and fixes to the content from the previous update.

We've already had the opportunity to check out a handful of new features aimed at Minecraft in the upcoming Cliff and Caves update as part of so-called snapshots provided by Mojang. Now the Java edition of this popular sandbox game has received snapshot 20w46a. If you want to test it, after launching the game client you have to go to the "Installations" section and enable snapshots. WARNING: before activating this feature, it is better to back up your world or run snapshot sessions from a separate folder - test versions may permanently spoil your works.

The snapshot introduces two novelties, although we have already had the opportunity to check one of them as part of an ' experiment by the devs. We are talking about blocks of snowdust, which slows down the movements of characters not equipped with leather gear. Also, unlike before, staying in white fluff for too long causes the hero to freeze gradually, and when that happens, they receive damage every few seconds. As with the reduced mobility effect, leather gear increase resistance to this condition. Also, if a character uses a full set of these items, they cannot be frozen at all.

Snapshot 20w46a also brought with it a lot of new textures for items introduced in the previous snapshot. We also get minor changes, such as reduced requirements for the bronze block (from now on it requires four metal bars instead of nine) or the increased range of lightning rod. There were also many technical improvements, including the ability to operate the buttons to change settings with the mouse wheel. These are not drastic changes, but it's another sample of the highlights of the upcoming major update for Minecraft. We will have to wait at least until the summer of 2021 for the debut of all the novelties.
