Yosuke Matsuda of Square Enix has spoken about Project Athia. The mysterious PlayStation 5 title from the creators of Final Fantasy XV is created as an open-world game.

Among the many games revealed during Sony's June conference, a new project by Square Enix, was found. Unfortunately, the trailer is basically all that the company revealed about Project Athia a month ago. Not much more was revealed by Yosuke Matsuda in a recent interview for Weekly Toyo Keizai Plus magazine (via Gematsu). Square Enix's CEO confirmed that Project Athia is being developed as an open-world game. It is not a big surprise - the devs at Luminous Productions had the opportunity to gain experience in creating such titles on the occasion of Final Fantasy XV.
Apart from that and a handful of praise for the technical capabilities of PlayStation 5 (on which Project Athia will be released), Matsuda hasn't said anything more. So we still don't know exactly what to expect from the game or even when to expect its debut.
