New games were announced during Microsoft's special conference, Inside Xbox. One of them was Scarlet Nexus, a mix of jRPG and hack'n'slash from Bandai Namco Studios, headed by the creators of the Tales of series, including Tales of Vesperia . The main character of the game will be Yuito Sumeragi, an OSF (Other Suppression Force) recruit, who wants to become an elite telepath. He has to save humanity together with other members of this specialized unit.
The action of Scarlet Nexus will take place in the far future, in the futuristic city of New Himuka, which was attacked by mutants hungry for human minds, called the Others. They are immune to ordinary weapons, so the last hope is in Yuito Sumeragi and other psychics, who are the only ones able to stop the evil from spreading around the world.
The first gameplay was presented at the conference, where we couldn look not only at the graphics and animations, but also spectacular combat taking place in real time. The battles are supposed to combine hack'n'slash-like dynamics with a more jRPG-like tactical approach.
Scarlet Nexus is powered by Unreal Engine 4. Visuals adopt the cel-shading technique, and thus resembles an interactive anime. The game will be playable on both Xbox One and Xbox Series X consoles. The release date has not been disclosed.
