Sony Shipped More PS5s than Microsoft XSX/Ss

According to industry analyst Daniel Ahmad, Sony has a slight edge over Microsoft in the number of 9th-gen consoles shipped to stores.

Yesterday, Sony revealed its latest financial report, which shows that 4.5 million PlayStation 5 consoles were shipped to stores by December 31, 2020, the first official sales result since the 9th-gen platform debuted last November. Still unknown is the amount of hardware shipped by Sony's biggest competitor in this segment, Microsoft. The only publicly reported message is a statement from Phil Spencer, head of the Xbox brand, that the company's consoles recorded their best debut ever in history.

On Twitter, industry analyst Daniel Ahmad, who covers the Asian market on a daily basis, suggests that the number of Xbox Series X/S consoles that have arrived in stores is lower than the number reported by Sony. Ahmad responded to a tweet from IGN journalist Ryan McCaffrey that just over a million fewer Xboxes were shipped compared to the PS5.

If these figures are true, then Spencer's words about the best launch in the brand's history are certainly confirmed. And just like Sony's result, this would also be impressive due to the fact that the American company is also struggling to meet the demand for its hardware, which may last at least until June this year.
