Steam's new record showcases the power of PC gaming. In 5 years, Valve's platform has grown by more than 100%
Steam has crossed the barrier of 40 million simultaneously active players. The release of Monster Hunter: Wilds had a huge impact on this result.

PC gaming is doing very well, and the best proof of this is the steadily growing popularity of Steam. The Valve platform regularly breaks activity records, but the latest one is special as it signifies crossing a certain milestone. At the peak of the past weekend, over 40 million users were using Steam at the same time - the exact result is 40,270,997 players (via SteamDB).

This fact is linked to an interesting tidbit. Nearly five years ago, Steam reached a record of 20 million people logged in simultaneously, marking an increase of over 100% since then (the 10 million threshold was broken in June 2015). This shows how rapidly Gabe's digital store is expanding, and despite the competition from Epic Games Store, it continues to lead on PC.
Of course, the new record wouldn't have been achieved without popular games. In this case, the release of Monster Hunter: Wilds had a significant impact on user activity, attracting over 1.3 million players to their screens at its peak. Thus, the game broke the records set by titles such as Cyberpunk 2077 and Elden Ring, and now ranks 5th on the all-time list.
It's also important to highlight the outstanding condition of Counter-Strike. In the last 24 hours, at its peak, 1.75 million players were playing it, which is dangerously close to the record of just over 1.8 million.
The remaining most popular games are PUBG: Battlegrounds, Dota 2, Marvel Rivals, Grand Theft Auto V, and Naraka: Bladepoint. All these titles and many others contributed to achieving a new record on Steam.
