Geoff Keighley has confirmed the start date for Summer Game Fest 2021, and the launch of the event will be celebrated with the announcement of „over a dozen” games and other activities.
Geoff Keighley confirmed the start date of the second edition of Summer Game Fest. This year, the opening presentation of the event will take place on June 10 at 11:00 AM PT.
Last year's Summer Game Fest was a response to the cancelation of many video game trade shows (including E3 2020). However, this took the form not of a single conference, but a four-month celebration culminating in the digital edition of gamescom 2020. The event confirmed, among other things, the return of the first two installments of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater. Additionally, numerous demos were made available.
Also for this year, a lot of attractions are planned, but the organizers decided to slightly change the formula. This time the opening presentation of Summer Game Fest will be the center of the program, and the rest of the event will be spent on conferences of individual publishers and other partners (for example Ubisoft Forward). Keighley justifies this decision with the feedback on the first edition of the event, which many people found too long in time.
This time around, we'll see about 20 games at the launch (via GameSpot), including many previews. Keighley assured that they will be worth the players' time, although he saw fit to remind us that the coronavirus has made developers' work much more difficult, and as a result, many games planned for 2021 may be released later. Nevertheless, we shouldn't complain too much about the Summer Game Fest 2021 repertoire, since more than 30 publishers have already declared their participation, including Activision Blizzard, 2K Games, Epic Games, Sony, Microsoft, Saber Interactive, miHoYo, Warner Bros. Games and Electronic Arts. Organizers are also negotiating with more entities - Keighley mentioned Nintendo, among others, which did not appear at Summer Game Fest 2020.
