The 120 FPS cap in GTA 5 Enhanced took us by surprise, so Rockstar quickly changed it

After some harsh feedback from the community, Rockstar released a fresh update for GTA 5 Enhanced on PC. Players have instantly noticed the removal of the FPS cap.

Oh yeah, another Grand Theft Auto just dropped – but nope, still not GTA 6. Not even a second trailer, and leaks about the new game have been pretty dry for a while. But hey, at least every GTA 5 player can finally enjoy the ultimate, best-ever edition of the game, right? Well... not exactly. The Enhanced edition on PC is missing HDR and chat, people are struggling with error 7002.1, can’t transfer their Online profiles, and it looks like it was capped at 120 FPS for a while. So much for the best version.

GTA 5 got Enhanced, but not how we expected

There have been so many editions of GTA 5 over the years that I’ve lost track, and honestly, I think most people stopped counting a while ago. The joke about yet another Ultimate Premium Enhanced Edition is getting just as old as the game itself.

All we really need to remember is that GTA 5 originally launched in 2013 on PS3 and Xbox 360, with the PC version following in 2015. The Legacy PC version had an uncapped FPS option, letting us push our setup as far as it could go. So, it’s no surprise that people were caught off guard when the new Enhanced edition showed up with a 120 FPS cap – especially for those who were used to running it at way higher frame rates.

But just a day after the Enhanced edition launch, Rockstar released an update that removed the FPS cap, so now we can all breathe a sigh of relief and see what our PCs are really capable of. Let’s just hope our GPUs can handle the heat. Maybe this update will smooth out some issues, improve optimization, and help with those mixed reviews on Steam.

While the game itself has only gotten graphical upgrades and faster load times on newer consoles, GTA Online keeps getting fresh content – and at this rate, that probably won’t change even after GTA 6 finally releases.

Been with gamepressure.com since 2019, mostly writing game guides but you can also find me geeking out about LEGO (huge collection, btw). Love RPGs and classic RTSs, also adore quirky indie games. Even with a ton of games, sometimes I just gotta fire up Harvest Moon, Stardew Valley, KOTOR, or Baldur's Gate 2 (Shadows of Amn, the OG, not that Throne of Bhaal stuff). When I'm not gaming, I'm probably painting miniatures or admiring my collection of retro consoles.
