The Lords of the Fallen Like Elden Ring; 'It Killed Us Inside,' Game Director Says

The Lords of the Fallen is expected to be more similar to Elden Ring than we think. Reportedly, the developers themselves were surprised by the similarity of the reboot to FromSoftware's work.

Creative director of The Lords of the Fallen, Caesar Virtosu from CI Games-owned studio Hexworks, recently gave an interview to Edge (you can find it in issue 381.). He revealed in it that the upcoming reboot - just like Lords of the Fallen from 2014 - will draw in spades from games created by FromSoftware.

However, while the original - due to its age - was mainly inspired by the first two installments of the Dark Souls series, The Lords of the Fallen is more likely to resemble the Japanese developer's latest game, Elden Ring. So much so that it will feature flails (a type of weapon), as well as a boss very reminiscent of Malenia, Blade of Miquella.

Interestingly, Virtosu suggests that both were designed before the release of Elden Ring. The team was said to be severely disappointed by this revelation. "It killed us inside,", stated the creative director.

Pushed into a rivalry with FromSoftware's work, Hexworks is raising expectations for The Lords of the Fallen. "As you can guess, there is some pressure," Virtosu stated. "People are asking things like 'Do you have mount combat?, Do you have an open world?'.

As a reminder, I will add that the release of The Lords of the Fallen is scheduled for 2023, but its exact date has not been announced at this time. The title is headed for PC, PS5 and XSX/S.
