How to get rid of base modules in The Alters? This page of the guide describes in detail how to remove unwanted rooms to recover resources or free up some space for other modules. We also explain whether you get back the resources that were previously spent to construct the removed room.

How to remove a base room?

  1. To remove existing base modules, go to the Command Center and select the left console, i.e., the one that will display the Base Overview.
  2. You can hover over the base modules that have already been built with your cursor. A list of actions will appear in the bottom right corner of the screen, and it may include the option to delete a room (RMB on PC). Some base rooms are mandatory and cannot be deleted; these are, for example: the Womb, Command Center, Captain's Cabin, Quantum Computer, Machinery, Airlock, or Communication Room.

Is removing existing modules worth it?

  1. You should only decide to get rid of the base module if you lack space for other rooms and cannot easily expand the base and gain more slots at that very moment.
  2. In the deletion window, you will find information about getting back resources in exchange for deleting a module, which will depend on the room condition. If it's not damaged, there is a high chance that you will recover all or most of the materials. Additionally, you might receive a warning about potential important changes in the way the base operates. In the example from the screenshot, removing one of the storage rooms will reduce the storage space and may make your further playthrough more difficult.
  3. First, try to move the rooms to other places in the base and treat deleting modules as a last resort. After you change the location of a room, you may actually free up some space that will now fit a larger module you've wanted to build. Moving base rooms is always free and doesn't consume any supplies.
