The main task Sky's the Limit in the third chapter of The Alters forces the main character to climb the Interal Tree. On this guide page, you will find a walkthrough with all the steps - we show what supplies to prepare for climbing, how to climb the tree, how to deal with anomalies, where to place the Fragmenting Device, and how to leave the Interal Tree and return to the mobile base.

How to prepare for the climb?

  1. The mission objective to climb the Interal Tree will not be received immediately after starting the Sky's the Limit main task in act 3. First, you have to make a Fragmenting Device and build a Materializer Module in your base.
  2. Eventually, you will receive an order to go to the designated point and call Jan Scientist. The mentioned location is the end part of a mountain trail, which is located near a deep Organics Deposit Area. Our images show the location.

According to the warnings of Jan Scientist, do not rush to reach the indicated location without proper preparations. This applies to both Jan and the base, where the alters will remain in the protagonist's absence.

  1. Craft at least 5 Suit Batteries. They will be used for various actions during the climbing - we described this in the further part of the page.
  2. Craft at least 10 repair kits. This is a very important aspect, because during the exploration of the Interval Tree, there will be regular failures in the base. All alters will be delegated to repair it (the above picture) - they need repair kits, but they aren't able to craft them.
  3. Start the expedition in the morning hours. This will provide you with plenty of time even with very slow climbing. Additionally, at the start of the day, the game creates a new autosave, so you can load it if necessary.

How to reach the top of the Interal Tree?

  1. After interacting in the designated place, you will start walking on the large branches of the Interal Tree.
  2. The biggest difficulty during climbing is the numerous different anomalies. Travel while holding the luminator, so you don't miss any anomalies and touch them. If this happens, you can lose 1 anomaly shield or increase the level of radiation (filling the bar to 100% means loss of consciousness and failure of the task).
  3. Illuminate the anomalies to destroy them. However, these actions will drain the suit's battery. It's worth noting here that there is no need to get rid of all anomalies - you can run past those that do not block the path.
  1. The second type of obstacles are climbing walls and here a lot depends on the developed technologies. The Free Climbing research project can be very helpful, as it will eliminate the need to use batteries. If you don't have this technology, each climbing wall will consume from 1 to several segments of battery.

How to set up the Fragmenting Device and leave the Interal Tree?

  1. At the top of the gigantic tree, you must first destroy 3 blue cores of the Prism Anomaly - they are clearly visible and you will use a luminator for this, but you will have to use up some battery again.
  1. You need to select the Fragmenting Device from the menu. The correct place to set it is shown in the picture. The game traditionally marks this place in blue. It is right next to a structure resembling a tree made of crystals.
  1. The last step is to escape from the Interal Tree. Go to the opposite end of the highest branch. An interaction icon will appear in the place shown in picture 1 and Jan can automatically slide to the very bottom. This ends your adventure with the Interal Tree - you have destroyed the obstacle that prevented Jan from activating the beacon.
