The Alters: Can you stop time?
Is it possible to stop or slow down the passage of time in The Alters? In our tutorial you will learn about the built-in clock and its importance, pausing gameplay and the option to speed up the passage of time.
Stopping the passage of time is one of the options you can look for while playing The Alters. On this page of the guide, we explain whether it's possible to stop or slow down the clock counting down to the end of the day, how to pause the game, as well as how the time acceleration function works and under what circumstances it may be activated.
What is the purpose of the clock?
- The passage of time is one of the most important elements of the game. The current time is displayed in the lower left corner of the screen. This can make planning your next activities, as well as returning to the base and ending the day easier.
- In general, the main character performs various activities and completes tasks during the day, gradually using up the energy bar. The night is meant for rest and the game won't let you forget that. Moreover, going to bed at a late hour will make you "start" the next day late as well.
You can find more information about time management on a separate page called Day Plan in the basics section.
Can you stop time?
- It's not possible to completely get rid of the clock, as it is an integral part of the game and its survival elements. You have to take into account supplies are consumed each day, as well as the fact that in certain situations you may be forced to face time-related threats, such as fleeing from the deadly sun. The time passes even at the lowest difficulty level.
- Opening the menu may pause the game. This will allow you to calmly review the selected options, familiarize yourself with the objectives or available tutorials.
- The game does not pause on the base screen - as can be seen in the attached photo. It's because there you can track the actions of the main character and all of his alters.
- In specific situations the game may temporarily turn off the clock and allow you to perform certain actions without worrying about the time. The first such situation will occur at the start of your first journey across the surface of the planet. This takes place right after the end of the prologue and you can use it as an opportunity to have a long conversation with the alter technician.
How to speed up time?
- Selected actions can cause time to pass much faster. This applies to all sorts of work, for example extracting deposits, cooking or crafting items in the workshop.
- Don't perform too many actions that speed up the clock, because you may run out of time for other important things. You can stop activities at any time and you do not have to wait, for example, to collect all the gold from a given location. You can also resume the same action later - personally or by assigning it to an alter.
