Death Stranding 2: How to defeat the mysterious man a second time?

Main Order no. 31 in Death Stranding 2 consists of another fight with the mysterious man and his squad of undead. You will face him once again in Nirvana, but this time the entire map will be underwater. On this page of the guide, we have described how to prepare for the fight and how to defeat the boss.

How to prepare for the second fight with the mysterious man?

You will face the mysterious man again in an alternate dimension, Nirvana. You will be transferred there when you exit F4, right after completing order no. 30. Just like before the previous fight, you have a moment to prepare. Again, leave anything that isn't a weapon or bag of blood in a private locker. We recommend equipping yourself with:

1. Several sets of blood grenades;
2. Machine gun,
3. Silenced assault rifle (optional - your boomerang is also great for stealth),
4. Grenade launcher or grenade pistol (you have not yet unlocked the blueprint for crafting a grenade launcher. If you have a grenade launcher you got from an enemy, take it. If not, replace it with MP grenades, a grenade pistol, or take the grenade launcher from one of the undead during the boss fight),
5. At least four blood bags.

When you're ready, exit F4 to enter Nirvana and begin the fight.

How to get through Nirvana?

This time the entire fight takes place underwater, where Sam can still breathe. This means much higher jumps and no fall damage. Once again, before you find your target, you must get through a short location filled with undead soldiers. Pick up the contents of your backpack and head forward through the narrow canyon.

You will soon find yourself in a hospital where you must follow a swimming whale through a linear corridor. In the lobby you need to get to the elevator shaft on the upper floor. Head up the side stairs, there is only one enemy waiting on them. Then jump into the shaft.

As you go down the last corridor, a whale will start swimming towards you. Quickly take cover behind the right wall in the open room and be ready to fight with a group of undead. Watch out for soldiers trying to get you from behind, and if necessary, eat a cryptobiote to heal yourself. After the battle, go to the end of the corridor to begin the boss fight.

How to defeat the mysterious man?

The second fight with the mysterious soldier and his squad of undead follows the same rules as the first. To win, you must kill the boss five times. Each time he dies, he teleports to a different part of the map - his location will be shown to you by odradek. Killing the boss also immediately destroys the soldiers, so you can either gradually eliminate the guards or just focus on the boss.

The unique mechanic of this battle is the ice columns that appear in the arena after each phase. When an ice column is near Sam, he begins to freeze which drastically reduces his mobility. You can destroy the columns with explosives - the best ones are projectiles from a grenade launcher, a grenade pistol or MP grenades. As a last resort, you can also provoke enemies into throwing a grenade at the column for you. Try to destroy these columns as soon as you notice them.

The first phase of the fight takes place on the ground. The boss is initially far away - go towards him, hiding behind the bus wrecks on the left side of the street. After a short time the unit will move forward. Wait for them to pass you by and then attack them from behind, taking them out with grenades or quickly eliminating the leader.

In the second phase, the boss will be waiting on the balcony of a nearby church. One of the slopes in the arena leads straight to the church roof above the balcony - if you can quietly take out the remaining soldiers, you can surprise the leader by shooting at him from the roof.

In the third phase, get to the balustrade above the street as quickly as possible - the undead squad will shoot at you from there immediately. The arena has multiple staircases leading to higher floors, and Sam can jump high enough to reach rooftops.

In the fourth phase, the boss will move to the highest roof in the arena. There is a narrow staircase leading to it, and from there you can easily throw a grenade at the boss. If you provoke a squad into chasing you, you can throw a blood grenade onto the stairs and the resulting cloud of blood will kill them if they try to cross it.

The final phase takes place on the street again and is a one-on-one fight. Finish your opponent off in a gunfight, sneak up on him, or defeat him in hand-to-hand combat to end the battle.
