What is Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened about?
Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened is a remake of the game released under the same title in 2006. While following the beginnings of friendship with John Watson, we will have to unravel the mystery of a certain man's disappearance. A seemingly simple matter turns out to be quite terrifying, with a mysterious cult in the background, and the atmosphere that brings to mind associations with horrors or Lovecraft's stories.
In the game, we visit Victorian London, Switzerland, Scotland, and New Orleans in Louisiana. The main investigation is composed of exploration, searching for clues and connecting facts and objects. On occasion, we solve optional side quests. Sometimes we also have to take control over the Watson. The game again features so-called "palace of the mind", which is used to link clues, and applying cosmetic rewards, changing the appearance of our characters.
What makes it worth playing?
Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened quite adeptly combines the universe of the famous detective with the atmosphere from Lovecraft's books. Following this story is captivating and really intriguing. We don't have to constantly sit in foggy London either, because the game "drives" us around the world and various locations, which isn't the norm in this series. The gameplay, on the other hand, should please less experienced players who are not used to bigger challenges or simply don't like them. Conducting an investigation here it's not too difficult. For everyone else, what's left is a dense atmosphere, likable characters and an engaging plot with satisfying detective work.
