A Japanese development studio based in Ashikaga, owned by Koei Tecmo. Omega Force creates games primarily for PC and consoles, and its portfolio is dominated by musou games – the Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors series and their subseries.

History

Omega Force's roots date back to 1996, when the studio began operations as Koei's fourth business division. Interestingly, the studio was initially planned to be named Z, but due to the varying meanings of this letter outside of Japan, the decision was made to replace the last letter of the Latin alphabet with the last letter of the Greek alphabet. Furthermore, to avoid a copyright conflict with Omega SA, the word "Force" – a Japanese homophone meaning "fourth" – was added to the studio's name.

Musou games...

Omega Force was headed by Kenichi Ogasawra, who was tasked with creating a 3D action game designed to utilize the capabilities of the PlayStation console. We didn't have to wait long see the studio's work, as Dynasty Warriors, a game that took players to China during the Three Kingdoms Era, was released in 1997. In 2000, the game got a sequel, widely considered the first representative of the musou genre. These hack and slash games allow players to become heroes with such a significant advantage over their opponents that they can eliminate hundreds or even thousands of enemies in a single battle.

Dynasty Warriors was a success and launched a series that would become the studio's flagship. The game spawned numerous sequels and sister series, including Samurai Warriors (set in Sengoku-era Japan) and Warriors Orochi (a crossover between Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors). Furthermore, Omega Force developed numerous Dynasty Warriors spin-offs over the years, as well as a number of musou titles based on high-profile licenses (such as Dynasty Warriors: Gundam, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, One Piece: Pirate Warriors, and Fire Emblem Warriors).

Over the years, the Dynasty Warriors formula began to wear thin. To remedy this, Dynasty Warriors: Origins, released in January 2025 Dynasty Warriors: Origins, featured a new character, unknown to the history books.

...and more

Omega Force's activities were not limited solely to creating musou games. Enigma, an adventure game, was released in 1998. Over time, the studio's projects included titles such as the strategy game Bladestorm: The Hundred Years War and the action RPG Wild Hearts.

The team even released a third-person shooter titled WinBack: Covert Operations, which boasted an innovative, for its time, cover system and laser sights. Furthermore, in late September 2023, the team released an action RPG titled Fate/Samurai Remnant, representing the franchise belonging to Type-Moon and started with its 2004 project Fate/Stay Night.
