Sony has finally revealed its own interchangeable case plates for PlayStation 5. What's more we're also getting new matching DualSense colors.
A recent Sony patent led us to believe that gamers would finally get the option to "recolor" their PlayStation 5 black. As it turns out, the company has prepared not one, but several interchangeable covers for the console. In addition to Midnight Black we can also choose from Cosmic Red, Starlight Blue, Galactic Purple, and Nova Pink. All variants were presented on the official video (you can watch it below).
PS5 owners have long been hoping for alternative color variants of the console, until now, however, they've had to rely on unofficial products, and Sony has stubbornly fought against covers manufactured by third-party companies (though the latter haven't given up yet).
This product from Sony will cost $55. This may seem too high a price - until you compare it with the offer of panels from independent manufacturers. The "lawyer-proof" Darkplates 2.0 from Dbrand cost $59 in pre-sale and now the price is $69. In other words, Sony's cover is cheaper than many unofficial replacements. It should be noted that there are currently only two colors on offer: black and red.
Going hand in hand with the new covers are identical color variants for the DualSense controller. They cost $75 on the official PlayStation store, which is $5 more expensive than the standard white pad. The release date for the controllers is set for January 14, 2022, and the covers will launch a week later.
