Chinese and Japanese Games Took Over Steam in January

Valve presented a list of the most popular Steam launches for January this year. The dominating productions were from China, Japan and Korea, many of which do not even have English versions yet. The Sands of Salzaar, Temtem and Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot have been among the successful titles.

The English version of Sands of Salzaar is expected to be released soon.

Valve has published a list of the twenty largest (in terms of popularity) launches of January on Steam. Traditionally, no specific sales results were disclosed, nor even the correct order of titles. That's why we added estimates of the paid version of Steam Spy to the list.

Last month turned out to be unusual, because as many as six games from the top twenty do not have an English version. This group includes the RPG Sands of Salzaar, which according to Steam Spy's estimates was the biggest bestseller of January. However, the devs of this hit song are already working on translating it into Shakespeare's language. The popularity of the title may be partly due to the coronavirus epidemic, which has caused Chinese players to spend more time at home playing video game.

Also the Pokemon-inspired MMORPG TemTem fared pretty well. It is worth noting that both this title and Sands of Salzaar are available in Early Access. Among the more traditional productions one should pay attention to we have the successes of the RPG Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, which uses the popular license and the independent horror ParanormalHK.
