Marvel's Wolverine Teaser Hides Quite a Few Easter Eggs for Comic Book Fans

The team from Insomniac Games hid some interesting easter eggs in the teaser of Marvel's Wolverine. They refer to both the possible setting and the history of comic books about the famous mutant.

The teaser of Marvel's Wolverine from Insomniac Games (creators of Marvel's Spider-Man), was one of the biggest surprises of yesterday's PlayStation Showcase 2021 event. Although it's not very long (it lasts just over 50 seconds), it hides a few interesting easter eggs.

First of all, as we wrote yesterday, it's worth paying attention to the elements revealing what pub the teaser takes place in. It's the Princess Bar, located in Madripoor. Both these names can be seen in the frame below. They may be familiar to fans of Marvel comics. Princess Bar first appeared in them in 1988 in Marvel Comics Presents #1. Wolverine was a regular there for some time. This was a time when he was on the aforementioned Madripoor (a fictional island in Southeast Asia, near Singapore) and was involved in a feud with a local underworld leader known as Tyger Tiger. It's possible that this is how we found out where the action of Insomniac Games' production will take place and who the protagonist will face.

But that's not all. On the discussed frame there are two more references to the history of comic books about the famous wolverine. The first is a license plate, which shows the following sequence of letters and numbers (via AIPT):

  1. HLK 181

This refers to the comic book Incredible Hulk #181, in which Wolverine debuted and had the opportunity to face Bruce Banner's green alter ego. This issue was released in 1974. We can spot this number emblazoned on the cash register.

Such an accumulation of interesting elements may give hope that the creators of Marvel's Wolverine with Brian Horton and Cameron Christian (who supervised the works on Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales) on the lead, will carefully approach the eponymous character. However, how it will be in fact, we'll find out only after some time. Currently the game is at a very early stage of work.
