New MicroProse Reveals its First War Games

We go to know the first titles that will be released by reborn MicroProse Software. As it turns out, the publisher hasn't announced any new production, but has taken under its wing severl promising war games known for many months.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  1. The reborn MicroProse Software has revealed the first projects to be included in its publishing portfolio;
  2. The games in question are the accessible turn-based strategy under the title Second Front, complex RTS titled Task Force Admiral and a position from the borderline of strategy and simulation, namely Sea Power;
  3. Although the publisher did not disclose their launch dates, the company shared their hardware requirements on Steam.

MicroProse Software, which returned to the industry map last September, unveiled today three (out of approximately twenty) productions to be released under its wings. The games are two of Second World War strategies, Task Force Admiral and Second Front, and a tactical RTS called Sea Power: Naval Combat in the Missile Age, set in the Cold War era. Veterans of the genre will certainly notice that these are not completely new items, but promising works known for many months.

As the publisher claims in the official announcement that, in accordance with the spirit of the company, it will allow its games to tell the players "a story of quality and passion", we have no choice but to take a close look at these projects. First of all, however, it should be noted that at the time of writing this message, we do not yet know the release date of any of them. Nevertheless, we already know that MicroProse Software intends to release its first (after the rebirth) games later this year.

Second Front

Let's start with Second Front from the independent studio Hexdraw. The game is a turn-based strategy, the action of which will be set during the Second World War. Don't be fooled by its colorful, cartoonish graphics. The developers watching over this production are big fans of tactical board games, which is to be reflected in the deep (but not necessarily complex) mechanics. The developers will give us a variety of campaigns to command German, American and Soviet units. Players who want something more will be able to use an extensive editor to create their own battles.

The Second Front is to provide fun for both seasoned strategists and complete novices.

The gameplay in Second Front will take place on large maps covered with hexagonal grid. During the game, the most important thing is to skillfully use the capabilities of individual units (the list of which includes "more than 200 types of vehicles and infantry soldiers for each nation") and a good knowledge of the battlefield (the devs announce the implementation of 22 types of terrain and more than 80 types of destructible buildings). All this will be complemented by artificial intelligence, which will not be based on scripts, but on plans, and will constantly analyze the situation on the battlefield to adapt its tactics.

Task Force Admiral

The second item on the list is Task Force Admiral, a real-time strategy game from Drydock Dreams Games that will enable us to take control of American forces during the operations in the Pacific in 1942. During the game we will play the role of an American staff officer, and our task will be to fight the enemy forces, namely the Japanese Empire.

The visuals will undoubtedly be the strength of Task Force Admiral.

Task Force Admiral is to draw on the achievements of previous MicroProse Software games, including titles like Carriers at War, while bringing a breath of fresh air to the genre. For example, the developers will enables us to choose between watching the action from the commander's perspective or in a more accessible bird's eye view. The game's audiovisuals, as well as historical realism, will also be a strong point. The latter is to manifest itself, among other things, through real battles, in which we will take part together with pilots and officers known from history books. In addition, there will be 95 types of ships and 42 types of aircraft on both sides of the conflict, which will be carefully recreated with attention to detail.

Sea Power: Naval Combat in the Missile Age

The last project that MicroProse Software took under its wing is Sea Power: Naval Combat in the Missile Age. We've already written about this production in January, so we'll limit ourselves to reminding you the most important information. We are talking about a game combining RTS and simulation, the action of which will be set at the turn of the 70s and 80s of the last century, in the middle of the Cold War.

Like Task Force Admiral, Sea Power is about realism.

In the course of the game, we will take control of the aircraft carrier task force and take part in operations in places such as the Persian Gulf or the Mediterranean. The creators will enable us to stand on the side of NATO, as well as to play the role of a Warsaw Pact military commander. As was the case with Task Force Admiral, the title will boast high quality graphics.
