No Man's Sky Overrun by Pirates; Outlaws Update Goes Live

Not a new game, but a pirate update for No Man's Sky was teased in a recent post by Sean Murray from Hello Games. Its main features: a new ship, illegal goods, missions, planetary raids and much, much more.

Development of No Man's Sky isn't slowing down. After the release of Sentinels Hello Games has released another update for NMS - Outlaws. Its content is presented in the newly released trailer (available below).

No Man's Sky under a pirate flag

Just as the name suggests (and earlier enigmatic entry by Sean Murray, the head of Hello Games), after the update a large part of the No Man's Sky universe has been overrun by bands of shady star sailors. Pirates have long roamed the game world, but only as hostile ship crews.

  1. Now stations and entire planetary systems are under the control of space corsairs, featuring new NPCs, illegal goods, missions for people who enjoy activities that are not necessarily legal, pirate raids on celestial bodies and the first new type of ship in two years (Solar).
  2. On the one hand, after the update No Man's Sky encourages robbery. The rewards for destroying units - not only pirate vessels, but also merchant ships, frigates and Sentinels - are better and more varied than before.
  3. On the other hand - the creators have also increased the bonuses for rescuing frigates attacked by pirates, and "law-abiding" systems carry out checks on ships. It's better not to get caught there transporting illegal goods.

Moreover, in some time a new expedition will start (Blighted Expedition), in which we will learn the secrets of the corsair fleet known as the Blight. Treasures to be found include mainly unique cosmetic items with pirate themes.

Squadrons and space battles

Expansion of space corsairs is not all that the update brought. The full list of changes can be found on the game's official website, and they include, among other things:

  1. Changes in space battles, Space battles have been re-balanced and now look better than before;
  2. Increased number of spaceship slots from 6 to 9, as well as the addition of cargo equipment and the function to summon support in the form of a "squadron" of friendly ships;
  3. The addition of energy shields (varying in power and the time it takes to reactivate them) and "clothing simulation" and the related introduction of new customization options for hoods and capes.

In addition the developers have significantly improved the game's optimization and removed many small and large bugs.
