Peter Molyneux Announces New Game; Sets Up Frank Blog Without Comments

Peter Molyneux is working on a new game, which probably won't be based on NFTs - like Legacy, which has received a release date. The Brit has started a blog, where he intends to „explore ideas” and share tidbits from Dungeon Keeper, Black & White or Fable.

Despite being 64 years old, Peter Molyneux - the now legendary co-creator of games such as Populous, Dungeon Keeper, Black & White or Fable - is not going into developer retirement. That's more, the Brit directly wrote today on Twitter/X, that he has started work on a new game.

Moat is Peter Molyneux's new game

Its title - presumably a working name - is Moat. In turn, the place of action is to be Albion. Molyneux did not specify, however, whether it is about ancient England - let's hope! - or perhaps about the Fable universe (due to the fact that its reboot is being developed by Playground Games, the latter option seems very unlikely... though not as unlikely as the thought that it could be about the world of Albion Online).

And that's it for now - we don't have even a single clue as to what the Moat is, let alone suggesting when to expect this title. However, I'll be tempted to guess that this time Molyneux's 22cans Studios - in which he serves as creative director - will decide to create a "regular" game. By this I mean one that will not be based on NFTs, such as the upcoming Legacy.

Legacy release date

While we're at it, it's worth mentioning that two weeks ago we learned the release date of this economic strategy. Legacy will be released on PC on October 26, 2023. It will be interesting to see what kind of profit this game will bring after its debut, since long before that 22cans Studios earned more than 40 million British pounds on sales of non-fungible tokens.

Molyneux "explores ideas" in candid blog post

I made this assumption, that Molyneux and co. would now make a "regular" game, based on two posts that the Brit published on his recently established blog. Admittedly, Moat as such is not mentioned in them, but Molyneux notes that he is "considering going back to his roots and thinking about making a PC/console game."

Although the information about Moat is expected to start appearing on this website soon, don't expect details. This is because the dev has indicated in advance that nothing he writes will be a promise - it is meant to be more of an "exploration of ideas". This (un)regrettably cannot be commented on. Peter Molyneux's prudence stems from the fact that, as he himself admits in the first of his posts, he had mental problems after an interview for Rock, Paper, Shotgun, that took place nearly a decade ago.

The interview in question mainly concerned Godus and the unfulfilled promises associated with it. Molyneux is well known for making them, but, he believes, they stem from his unusual approach to game development, to thinking about video games outside the box.

The blog, as it were, is meant to be a way for the Briton to expose himself to the community. Given that his posts include tidbits of information related to Dungeon Keeper, Black & White or Fable, I think he will have no shortage of readers. Just remember to take Molyneux's words with a pinch of salt - after all he asked for it himself.
