Star Wars: Eclipse Only in 2028? Quantic Dream May be in Trouble

The release of Star Wars: Eclipse may still be a long way off. At least that's what Tom Henderson suggests, who once again reported on Quantic Dreams studio's recruitment problems.

Announcement of Star Wars Eclipse has generated a lot of interest, although rumors claim the game is not coming anytime soon. Or even longer, as studio Quantic Dream is reportedly having recruitment issues and as a result the game may not come out until 2027 or even 2028.

Star Wars: Eclipse doesn't have enough developers?

Tom Henderson (via Xfire) got this information from sources close to the studio. Previously, a source familiar with the matter reported that the release of SW: Exlipse is 3-4 years away. The reason? A staff shortage, which was evident from job postings on Quantic Dream's official website.

  1. Almost three months have passed since then, but apparently the situation has not improved. On the contrary, Quantic Dream's Paris branch has now more than 70 vacancies, which is even more than last December.
  2. Henderson also points out that while most of the job postings on the studio's official website have been updated in recent weeks, many of them were written as far back as 2021 or even 2020 (the content has remained the same).

It should also be recalled that another insider reported that work on SW: Eclipse was not started until early last year. In the context of this and the information about staffing problems, it's easy to believe that the game's release is still at least five years away.

Reveal trailer is Quantic Dream's ad for publishers and developers

This begs the question: if Star Wars: Eclipse is still that far away, why have the developers already revealed the project and even release a trailer? Paradoxically, this may be exactly due to recruitment problems.

  1. Henderson points out that the practice of (too) early reveals is becoming more common in the industry. Suffice it to say The Elder Scrolls VI - the title was announced in 2018, and yet we still don't know its release date. What's more, according to recent rumors the game still hasn't left pre-production.
  2. According to the insiders, such a move is aimed at attracting the attention of potential employees in an increasingly competitive market. Of course, this requires the disclosure of a really intriguing production, preferably under the license of a popular brand. For example, as in the case of Star Wars: Eclipse, Star Wars.
  3. One of Henderson's sources claims that Quantic Dream was also hoping to attract the attention of publishers eager to acquire the studio. The company had been looking around for a potential buyer for quite some time and, Henderson writes, had already approached several companies.

Unfortunately, Henderson's information indicates that the warm reception of Star Wars: Eclipse's trailer hasn't translated into either publisher interest or developers looking to hire.

The accusations of an allegedly toxic atmosphere at the studio may have done their part as well. Admittedly, Quantic Dream was exonerated in April 2021, but it's easy to predict how the scandal, which dragged on for years, affected the attitude of developers seeking employment.

Of course this is just unofficial information and should be approached with caution. Even if Henderson's sources are correct, their reports do not mean that work on SW: Eclipse has stalled. It's just that players need to be patient and hope that the many years of work will result in a good game.
