Steam Sets New Activity Record to Start the Year
The new year has started successfully for Steam. The service has just set a new activity record with over 27 million users logged in simultaneously.
Steam does not cease to impress. The service has just set a new activity record. Yesterday, at the hottest moment of the day, 27,942,036 people were logged in at the same time. Of these, as many as 8.2 million were playing a game.
The record being broken right now is not surprising. Steam achieves the best results when people have holidays, and in addition, the activity on the website is now driven by the winter sale.
The last two years have been a period of growth for Steam. The trend started in January 2020, when a two-year activity record was broken thanks to a score of 18.8 million people logged in. Two months later, it managed to break 20 million for the first time, and a year ago in December 2020, a new record was set with 24.7 million concurrent users.
All this shows that Steam's growth has been steady, which is all the more impressive when you consider the growing competition in the gaming industry. Even the massive giveaways of full versions of blockbuster games in Epic Game Store couldn't stop more records being broken by Valve's service.
Last year was another successful period in Steam's history. Valve recently published a list of the biggest bestsellers of 2020 and among the hits, in addition to classics that have been doing well for years, we saw many new games, such as New World, Valheim, Naraka: Bladepoint or Battlefield 2042. In addition, from time to time the service sees revivals of projects that have been somewhat forgotten - such as the one experienced by Project Zomboid thanks to the warmly received update.
