WoW fans will have to wait abit longer for the expansion.

  1. WoW: Shadowlands will be released later, but the launch is expected later this year;
  2. A patch preparing the game for the release of the expansion will debut on October 13;
  3. We will also receive an introductory event to the story, where we will once again face the Scourge.

Blizzard Entertainment informed that the next expansion for the MMORPG World of Warcraft, titled Shadowlands, will not be released, as planned, on October 27 this year. The release has been postponed to a later date (not yet disclosed), although it is still scheduled to take place in 2020. As usual in similar situations, the reason for the delay is the willingness to refine the game, but also the difficulties related to the coronavirus. The information was provided in a note on the official website of the game.

"Over the past several months of testing, we’ve made significant progress iterating on and polishing the core features and gameplay of Shadowlands. We’re at a point where the zones, the campaign, the level-up questing experience, and the story we have to tell are essentially ready to share. We’re excited by the Covenants at the heart of the expansion, and it’s been a thrill to see Torghast take shape into a fun new kind of WoW experience, thanks in no small part to your input.

However, as everything started coming together and we’ve been listening to and building upon your feedback, it’s become clear we need a little more time for additional polish, and to balance and iterate on some interlocking pieces—particularly those related to the endgame. Shadowlands is one of the most intricate expansions we’ve yet created, and while we’ve made great progress, the challenge of tuning the endgame was compounded by the team having to work from home," we read.

Developers also informed that on October 13 an update preparing the game for the release of the extension (so-called pre-patch) will be released. It will introduce, among others, changed character progression system, changes on Exile's Reach Island and additional options to customize character's appearance. Closer to the launch of the add-on we can also expect an event in which we will once again face the Scourge, i.e. the undead.
