Pillars Of Eternity 2: How to quickly assemble the party?
The party in Pillars of Eternity 2 Deadfire is an inseparable part of the game, and it's crucial to plan its composition from the very beginning of the game. While departing from the first Island of the game - the one with Port Maje - where you can assemble your party for free (to be exact, five characters, including the player character). You can also hire companions at the inn, but it's not worth the cash. This page describes where to find the first companions and what kind of classes can be assigned to them:
Eder

Eder is a character who will join your party at the very beginning of the game - you don't have to look for him anywhere, he will automatically join your team. Character classes available for Eder include the following:
- Fighter
- Rogue
- Swashbuckler (Fighter + Rogue)
Xoti

Xoti resides in the Port Maje Harbor area, in the lower part of the encampment - as depicted on the map above. During your conversation with Xoti she will offer to join the party, but keep in mind that you should see her before starting the Stranded quest for the governor of Claria - in other case, Xoti travels to Neketaka where you'll be able to recruit her later in the game.
Classes available for Xoti include the following:
- Priest
- Monk
- Contemplative (Priest + Monk)
Aloth

Acquiring Aloth is connected with the Stranded quest, that you get from the governor of Claria in Port Maje. Your job is to find Oderisi, who is probably somewhere in the Engwithan Digsite - check the game guide to learn more about this quest. After searching the dig site and finding Oderisi, you will get stopped by a group of people - over the course of the conversation, Aloth will offer his services and join the party.
Classes available to Alotha include the following:
- Wizard
- Battlemage (Wizard + Fighter)
- Spellblade (Wizard + Rogue)
Serafen

Serafen can join your party right after leaving the first island. Completing the Stranded quest will result in the governor sending some men to repair your ship - after finishing the conversation with the governor get back to the starting location of the island, that is to Vilario's Rest. Then you will be automatically transferred to the ship travel mode, moments after you will get stopped by another ship - this time, you will have a conversation with Captain Furrante, during which Serafen will offer you his services.
The classes available to Serafen include the following:
- Cipher
- Barbarian
- Witch (Barbarian + Cipher)
Assembling your party at the inn

An alternative (requiring gold) to recruiting companions traditionally is to hire them at the inn, at e.g. The Kraken's Eye in Port Maje Harbor. All you need to do is talk to the innkeeper and choose the Recruit Adventurers option. A window will open, as shown in the first picture - you can hire a companion, whose maximum level is equal to the level of your main character (the prices start from 250 coins and increase according to character level). Hiring a companion at the inn will open a character creation sheet, the same one you saw at the beginning of the game while customizing your character. This new companion can be customized from the ground up, you can choose his race, class, appearance and name.
Attention - characters that were present in the previous instalment of the game as companions (like the aforementioned Eder and Aloth) might not be available for recruitment, depending on the choices that had been made by the player in the original Pillars of Eternity. If you have imported save files, in which those companions are dead, or maybe you've chosen a story in which they died at the beginning of the game, you won't be able to encounter them in Pillars of Eternity 2 Deadfire.
