Contract: The Tufo Monster - shaelmaar contract The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine Guide

In this contract you must eliminate the titular monster who will prove to be a shaelmaar living underground. Before fighting the monster Geralt will have to thoroughly examine the underground location and prepare bait for shaelmaar.

• Go to the Tufo vineyard and talk to the poster of the notice
• Go to the cellars after dark
• Search the underground tunnels
• Go to the place where Jean-Luc was last seen
• Follow the monster's tracks using your Witcher senses
• Brew shaelmaar bait
• Spread the bait in tunnels near the surface
• Kill the shaelmaar

Go to the Tufo vineyard and talk to the poster of the notice

The Tufo Vineyard is located near the Flovive village

You can unlock this quest by checking one of the notice boards in Toussaint. The questgiver is the owner of Tufo Vineyard - Monsieur de Bourbeau. The vineyard is located near the Flovive village in eastern part of the duchy (M3,10). Once you arrive there, speak with the owner of the vineyard and determine the details of disappearance of his employees. You can take the contract or first bargain a better payment. The talker will give you Key to the Tufo cellar.

Go to the cellars after dark

Wait for the night to fall (you can use meditation to speed up the flow of time) and use the key to unlock access to the basement of Tufo vineyard. Activate Witcher Senses and then use it to explore the basement. You must find broken dishes, rat nest and the weakened wall shown on the picture. You can break the wall with Aard.

Search the underground tunnels

Burn the eggs with Igni sign

Notice that breaking the wall in the basement unlocked access to an underground network of tunnels and chambers. Start exploring it. Be prepared to face some kikimores on your way. If you have trouble with defeating them due to their high experience level (47), use insect oil, White Honey and Igni sign.

Use Aard sign on another weakened wall. Soon you will reach a large chamber with kikimore eggs. Start using Igni sign to destroy the eggs (it's an optional very easy mission objective). Take a closer look at the eggs that were previously destroyed by the "main" monster you are looking for. Check the large holes in the walls as well. After finding and destroying all eggs go back to the surface through the same road (help yourself with the torch or with the Cat potion so that you won't lose the way). Speak with Monsieur and with Madame de Bourbeau.

Go to the place where Jean-Luc was last seen

The destination is an area of the vineyard located north from the main building. Once you arrive there, use Witcher Senses to check the basket with bread and the blanket. Then follow the footprints of two different people. The trail will divide at some point (as shown on the above picture). Select the left marks that will lead Geralt to the broken trees. Examining them will confirm Geralt's theory that the target is a shaelmaar.

Follow the monster's tracks using your Witcher senses

Use Witcher senses to locate the monster footprints - they will look different than humans'. Follow the trail and after some time you will reach an entrance to a small cave. Its precise location is shown on above picture - it is located north from Flovive and northwest from Tufo vineyard. After entering the cave you must walk through narrow corridors and reach the largest chamber.

Brew shaelmaar bait

Formula: Shaelmaar bait will be automatically added to the list of formulas. Search the cave in order to find three dead bodies. Examine them. After interacting with the corpse of Jean-Luca you will obtain Fresh human blood. The second required ingredient is Sewant mushrooms. You will easily find it in various parts of the cave. Collect three pieces of it.

Open alchemy window after gathering all ingredients and find the bait which should be located at the bottom of the list (as shown on above picture). At this point you should have the blood and the mushrooms and you can brew it.

Spread the bait in tunnels near the surface

This is a very simple mission objective. Open the round menu and set the bait as active additional item (as shown on above picture). Once it is done, walk to each area marked on the minimap and press the correct button so that you will spread the bait. Doing this will trigger the Monster of Tufo to appear in the cave.

Kill the shaelmaar

Attach the shaelmaar when it is lying on the back

The duel with shaelmaar will be similar to the encounter with that monster during The Beast of Toussaint main quest. Before starting the battle, use relict oil on silver sword and check if you have samum bombs equipped. Set Quen as active Witcher Sign - it will protect Geralt from serious damage when one of his actions won't be performed successfully.

Don't try attacking the shaelmaar traditionally - his thick skin will stop almost every attack. Instead of that, wait for the monster to start rolling through the cave. Wait until he is very close and jump away from his path. After hitting the wall of the cave or any other large obstacle shaelmaar should land on his back. When that happens, run quickly towards him and perform the strongest sword attacks.

Keep away from the monster when he partially digs himself in the ground

After the monster losses around 2/3 of his health bar, he will sometimes dig himself in the ground and throw small rocks. Wait through such attacks at safe distance.

Keep fighting until the monster loses all health. Once that happens, examine its corpse and obtain the Shaeelmaar Trophy. Now all that's left is to go back to vineyard owner and receive the payment for completing the contract.
