In Diablo 4, you can collect and spend Murmuring Obols. This guide page describes this unique in-game currency. You will learn, e.g. how to obtain Obols while traveling around the game world, how to increase the limit of Murmuring Obols in the hero's inventory, and whereto spend the Obols you have.

Obtaining Murmuring Obols

The basic way to obtain Obols is to complete random events on the main map - they are marked with orange circles.

Obols are one of the item types stored in the loot chest that appears after completing the event. By completing a single event, you can get a maximum of 35 Obols (if you complete its mastery objective).

Obols can also be rewards for completing cellar and dungeon events. They are also awarded when you open a chest after successfully completing an event.

Obols can also be rewards for completing selected side quests. After completing a given quest, you can get a chest of Obols in addition to the standard XP and gold rewards. You need to open the inventory and select the chest - Obols will appear on the ground next to your character.

Inventory Obol limit

By default, you can have a maximum of 500 Murmuring Obols in the inventory, and after reaching this limit, you won't be able to pick up more Obols.

There is a way to increase the Obol limit. You need to raise your Renown in a given region of the world to level four. It can only be unlocked while playing at World Tier 3.

Spending Murmuring Obols

All collected Obols can be spent at the Purveyor of Curiosities. You will find them in every major city and in selected smaller locations.

The Purveyor of Curiosities offers 2 types of services:

1. You can spend Obols on random items - you can choose the category of the item (e.g. ring or boots). There is no guarantee of receiving valuable equipment, because the game rolls an item from all quality categories (including the common).
2. You can spend Obols on Whispering Keys - in our opinion, this is a better choice, because the keys allow you to open Silent Chests in the game world, where there is a high chance of obtaining valuable loot.
