RPG, 2D, Fantasy, Indie Games, Classic RPG, Singleplayer, Turn-based, Isometric View.

A refreshed version of an old-school RPG from Spiderweb Software; the game is a continuation to Avernum: Escape from the Pit. Avernum 2: Crystal Souls is set in the same fantasy world, and to be precise - in the undergrounds that were turned into a huge prison by the Empire, which rules the world. Once again player leads a group of prisoners, who as depicted in the previous installment, managed to assassinate the despotic leader of the Empire - Hawthorne. Now, they have to face the Empire's counter-attack - the wrongdoers' aim is to reclaim control of Avernum and get rid of all the rebels. The player leads a party of four characters and observes their actions from an isometric view. Taking part in turn-based encounters, the team gains experience, developing their statistics and skills. Battles are very complex, allowing the player to use magic (over 60 spells and hundreds of artifacts) and advanced combat tactics. While exploring, the player visits over a hundred diverse locations. In total, the game delivers about 40 hours of play, and three independent paths lead to victory over the Empire. When developing this refreshed version, the creators were focused mainly on improving the visuals.

The fourth expansion pack for the 2013’s Europa Universalis IV, which is a part of the popular grand strategy game series by Paradox. Art of War is focused on the events of the Thirty Years' War, in which, apart from the Holy Roman Empire and the Catholic Habsburg dynasty, almost all European countries of the period were involved. The primary novelty of the add-on is the story campaign set in the aforementioned historical period. For its purposes, the combat system, for both land and naval battles, was enhanced. The expansion also improves military recruitment as well as diplomacy by introducing new options of concluding trade agreements and the possibility to declare war because of a vassal. We can also create satellite states and transform them into bastions that protect our country from the enemies. The integral part of the add-on is a large update that introduces a number of changes in the vanilla game’s mechanics.

A first person shooter created by RedBedlam - an independent developer. The game is based on a book under the same title, written by Christopher Brookmyre. The player takes on the role of Heather Quinn (aka Athena) - a scientist who decides to take part in an experiment that involves brain scanning. Once the protagonist has her brain scanned, she gets transferred into the world of a game Starfire, and a both mysterious and dangerous organization known as Integrity begins a hunt for the protagonist. Heather will have to run from the agents sent after her, but also find the cause of this unusual situation and a way out of the virtual universe. The player is taken on a sentimental journey across the history of gaming - the creators were inspired by the most popular FPS games, platformers and real-time strategies from the 1990s, such as Doom or Wolfenstein 3D. The inspirations are visible in level design, mechanics, and available weaponry. The same applies to the old-school visuals Bedlam The Game comes with.

The action of The Room takes place in the eponymous space, in which an extraordinarily complicated safe hides many secrets. The task is to get into the safe by solving a set of logic puzzles. The mechanics boil down to manipulating the elements of the lock, and fitting a key to slots that match it, as well as searching the room for hidden items. Some of the elements of the puzzles can’t be seen with bare eye – they can only be spotted when looking through a special lens. The authors managed to retain the dark atmosphere of the original; compared with the mobile version, the changes mainly concern the graphics.

During the playthrough we have the opportunity to play the roles of several, diverse characters, including Afro, who was also featured in the previous installment of the production. When it comes to the mechanics the game, it is still a rather typical hack’n’slash, which revolves around brutal and spectacular duels, fought with deadly, samurai weapons. The continuation does not lack in the terms of standard elements of the series, including platformer elements and an advanced combat system, which allows the player to perform extremely impressive moves and precise sword strikes. The visuals have been kept in the same style as those of the predecessor, however, unlike in the original Afro Samurai, the sequel allows us to enjoy the game in co-op mode.

Strategy, Indie Games, Internet, Multiplayer, RTS, Singleplayer.

A peculiar real-time strategy focusing on multiplayer gameplay. In BOID, the players assume the roles of primitive organisms that need to develop their abilities through evolution in order to eliminate their rivals. There are eight classes at to players’ disposal, with strong and weak sides working in a “rock-paper-scissors” system. Among them, we can find units attacking their enemy with poison, exploding on contact with an enemy, or immobilizing and devouring their victims. Some of them have more speed and less health, while others are more durable, but lacking in mobility. The key to success lies in skillful employment of these traits. BOID focuses on dynamic encounters that can last from 2 to 20 minutes. A typical match includes unit deployment, assuming an adequate strategy, and applying countermeasures to enemy actions. Additionally, during the gameplay we can use defensive structures placed around the map. BOID is characterized by minimalistic visuals, enriched with hand-drawn backgrounds and colorful lighting effects.

Cult mobile arcade game, also transferred to personal computers. In the debut work of the Hipster Whale studio, the player takes control of the hen (later, other animals or characters can be unlocked) and, like in the classic Frogger, tries to get through the hostile environment full of traps. This time, however, we're dealing with the so-called endless runner - closed levels have been replaced by a randomly generated board without a finish line as such.

Simulation, Sandbox, Singleplayer, Life Sim.

The first paid DLC for the 2014 game The Sims 4 by Maxis. The so-called “game pack” is located half-way between accessory packs, known from the previous installments, and the classic “big” expansions. The most important aspect of Outdoor Retreat is the new mountainous location called Granite Falls. It's an clean place, where the tired Sims can find respite from the problems of their daily lives. In Granite Falls, they can participate in a range of new activities, such as sleeping in a tent, playing camping games, roasting sausages over a bonfire, and gathering herbs (which also involves a brand new Herbalism skill). There are also several smaller novelties, e.g. the bear costume and the NPC wearing them, who annoys the vacationing Sims.

Sneaky Sneaky is a hybrid of sneaky and logical game. We direct a thief who has to recover his own treasure robbed by soldiers. In order to do this, we sneak through the boards, set traps and ingeniously use objects scattered around the maps.

The fourth installment in the shoot'em up arcade game series associated with Sony consoles. In the game, developed by D3T in cooperation with XDEV, the player assumes the role of a starship pilot, who travels through space to annihilate an enemy civilization that threatens humanity. Like in the previous installments of the series, the space battles take place on the orbits of various planets. Using the analog controls, the player can move his ship and fire at the foes. Additionally, one has to clear the path of meteors and occasional bosses - when fighting the latter ones, the player should consider using the numerous available power-ups, e.g. defensive shields and bombs. The game offers nine separate modes, featuring both single and multiplayer experiences (the latter one is designed for up to four players). To top it all, the game features 1080p resolution and runs at stable 60 FPS.

A spin-off of the legendary Mass Effect series, created by IronMonkey studio with mobile users in mind. In terms of the plot, the title is a kind of supplement to the third part of the series, and its action takes place parallel to the events described there. We play as Randall Ezmo, a former Cerberus agent who, having discovered the horrifying experiments conducted in the company's laboratories, decides to take revenge on his former employer. To do so, however, he must first get out of the heavily guarded facility.
