The eighth main installment in Ubisoft's series of historical economic strategies. Anno 117: Pax Romana takes us to the times of the Roman Empire. We may choose to play as a governor of either Latium or Albion, focusing on developing the land and taking care of the needs of our subjects.
Anno is a highly popular series of economic strategy games from the city builder genre, published by Ubisoft and developed by Ubisoft Blue Byte. Anno 117: Pax Romana described here is the eighth main installment in this series.
As the title suggests, Anno 117: Pax Romana takes the series to the 2nd century AD.
The game allows us to take on the role of a Roman governor, who, while controlling the province of Latium (modern-day central Italy) or the Celtic land of Albion (the ancient name for modern-day England), must manage them according to his own discretion. We can aim for economic growth and embrace diversity by adopting Celtic traditions, or we can impose a strict rule and spread Roman culture across the territories under our control within the empire.
Similar to previous installments in the series, Anno 117: Pax Romana focuses on building and caring for our subjects. The wide range of options related to the former has been enriched with the ability to construct impressive aqueducts, while one of the ways to show our care for citizens can be organizing spectacles in coliseums, with naumachiae (spectacular naval battle reenactments involving real ships) being a highlight.
The key to success is managing the province in such a way as to balance fulfilling the emperor's demands with providing the best possible living conditions for the citizens.
Since Rome has many opponents, we are not alone in the world of Anno 117: Pax Romana. The game allows us to recruit an army and deploy it to fight enemy forces and engage in real-time battles both on land and at sea. Additionally, we have the option to rebel against the emperor, which can have deadly consequences if we are not properly prepared.
Anno 117: Pax Romana can be played solo or in multiplayer mode over the Internet. The game allows for both cooperation and competition with other players.
On its debut, the PC version of Anno 117: Pax Romana supported mods only in a simplified form. Full support for mods (including a built-in UI and browser) was part of the post-launch support for the game. Similar to what happened with Anno 1800, to ensure proper support for this functionality in Anno 117, the developers collaborated with the creators of the popular platform mod.io.

Rectify Gaming: 5 / 10 by Will "FncWill" Hogeweide
If Ubisoft wants to shape its own future as confidently as it asks players to shape Rome, it needs more than another carefully assembled sequel. It needs a new empire entirely, built on fresh ideas and fearless creativity, not another gentle rework of what once worked well enough.

DualShockers: 8.5 / 10 by Jaime Tugayev
There are some pacing issues with the campaign, and I have questions about the longevity of single-player modes, but that does not take away from the fact that this is an excellent city builder that tells a Roman tale with the grandeur it deserves.
