The fourth major installment in a series of larg-scale strategy games, which originated in 2002 as a spin-off to the popular Europa Universalis series. Both franchises are consistently developed by Paradox Interactive. The game lets you take the lead of a country from the World War II period and beyond, specifically the years 1936-1948. Your responsibilities involve taking care of international relations and building alliances, but also developing the army, choosing the right strategy, and conducting the military operations. As it was in the previous editions of the series, the game combines faithfully recreated historical events (including authentic leaders, as well as military forces and technologies used by particular countries, along with the possibility of putting the history on a different course. As compared with the previous games, micromanagement was slightly reduced, and the focus shifted to larg-scale strategy. Other additions include the day and night cycle and changing seasons, as well as an option of grouping provinces into regions to facilitate management.

The gameplay focuses mostly on managing the country in all the key fields and requires making many strategic and political decisions, which have huge consequences. You have to take care of such things as e.g. internal policy, diplomacy, economics, armed conflicts or espionage. A sequel to the well-received grand strategy game set during World War II, developed by Paradox Interactive. Hearts of Iron 2 spans the entire world and requires us to oversee not only military activities but also all kinds of economic, political, and social dependencies. The player can lead any country, including the biggest superpowers of the era, such as Germany, Great Britain, and the Soviet Union. Hearts of Iron 2 offers great freedom in preparations for the outbreak of the World War II. The general premise of the gameplay recreates the solutions of the game's predecessor, but the sequel features many novelties, including additional diplomatic and political options (for example, you can check what would happen if Marxist ideas were introduced in Germany), an open negotiation system, trade agreements, or experience acquisition for military units. Historical scenarios that let us see the conflict through the eyes of a famous commander were also enhanced.

The plot of Hearts of Iron spans from 1936 to 1948, so you can choose to prepare for the inevitable war first. The creators have taken historical accuracy seriously, thanks to which you witness many events that really took place, although much still depends on your actions. The third instalment of the franchise features a huge world map, divided into around ten thousand provinces. It introduces many new solutions like new types of governments, the possibility to create Muslim schools that enable the player to increase their diplomatic power and the possibility to create trading policies by assigning missions to the merchants – the missions aren’t necessarily focused on earning money. The list of key novelties is supplemented by: greater influence over the army (for example, it is possible to create military discipline) and the option to abuse specific provinces (easy money is balanced by slower development in long term). Another DLC for the fourth installment of the popular Europa Universalis grand strategy game series. As the title suggests, the expansion takes us to the age of discoveries, although it presents the events of the period from a quite different perspective. This is because the gameplay is focused on the Central and Southern America of the turn of the 15th and 16th century, when a bloody struggle between the Spanish colonizers and local Aztec tribes took place; Europa Universalis IV: El Dorado lets us side with either. As the Spanish, we try to become as rich as possible by conquering the Aztec “golden cities” and other uncharted corners of the new world. Playing as Aztects, we have to ensure our lands’ security and do whatever we can to make the Europeans go home empty-handed. A spin-off of the popular Europa Universalis series, based on the engine and mechanics from the third installment, released in 2007. In contrast to every previous installment, Europa Universalis: Rome takes us to Antiquity, concentrating on the Roman Empire from 280 B.C. to 27 B.C. – from the First Punic War up to the birth of the grand Roman Empire. When it comes to mechanics, the gameplay isn’t at all different from what we could've seen in the other major entries of the series. During the game, we assume control of a chosen faction, taking care of its culture, religion, treasury, military forces, technological advancement, or diplomatic contacts. There are 50 playable factions at the player’s disposal, belonging to one of nine great cultures of that time, including Celts, Goths, Egyptians, and Romans.
