A space simulator created by Chris Roberts and the Cloud Imperium Games developer team. The plot of Star Citizen is set in the 30th century. Humanity, united under the banner of United Earth Empire, has begun the colonization of the universe, encountering many alien races in its course. It is a unique opportunity for adventurous pilots to gain fame and wealth, as well as the treasured status of an intergalactic empire citizen. The gameplay combines elements of spaceship simulator, shooter, cRPG, as well as economic strategy. The game offers two modes. Squadron 42 is an offline campaign, in which the player-controlled character joins an elite squadron of star fighters. For MMO aficionados, the developers have created the Galaxy Mode, allowing them to play with thousands of others. Spectacular visuals of Star Citizen are generated by the CryEngine 3 engine.

The open-world game structure offers the players large amounts of freedom when it comes to exploration, trading or completing military assignments. Instead of the classic division into the solo and multiplayer modes, the creators of Elite: Dangerous allow the player to join their friends or return to single-player experience at any time.

This is the debut from the independent developer Squad. The game is an unusual simulator requiring the player to develop their own space program from scratch. Kerbal Space Program combines features of many genres, but the most important part here is an extensive ship editor, which allows the player to design and build their own, unique spacecraft. The ship is then supposed to fly and land safely on a moon of the Kerbin planet. The spaceship is built from various elements - each of them affects it in flight and serves a specific purpose. Thanks to a realistic flight model, the player is capable of observing the effects of their work and monitoring a set of parameters describing the ship. Apart from the basic, sandbox mode, the game offers a set of story missions requiring the player to recruit a team, conduct research, build bases and visit dozens of planets.

A sandbox space simulator developed by Egosoft. It is the fourth full-fledged installment of the popular series X. Similarly to its predecessors, X4: Foundations focuses mostly on giving the players a freedom in how they want to play. At the beginning the player takes control of a cheap space ship with weak specifications. He is being thrown into the middle of an open galaxy. Depending on their choices, they can become a space merchant, a pirate, a soldier, a bounty hunter, an assassin, an explorer or a miner. The gameplay mechanics are more faithful to the first games in the series than to the newest installments. Many simplifications were removed in favor of mechanics known from X3: Terran Conflict, now improved and upgraded with some novelties. The player can pilot many types of ships that can be freely upgraded and modified. The dynamical game world is constantly shaped by player’s actions.

A spin-off to the space strategy series Starpoint Gemini, developed by creators from Little Green Man studio. The ideas for the game were based on players’ feedback gathered during Steam Early Stage. The action of Starpoint Gemini Warlords takes place in the same universe as the former titles of the series, and concentrates on rivalry between the ruling Empire and the resistance calling themselves the Gemini League. Gameplay is very similar to that in the title’s former parts. You assume the role of a space ship captain who tries to survive in the world ravaged by conflicts by trading in resources, hunting down various criminals, and fighting space pirates. The game features a universe almost eight times bigger, where the players can create and develop their space bases. It is worth mentioning that this installment introduces a more diverse world and space ship kinds, more upgrades and weapons, and an option of conquering another territories.

A combination of a real-time strategy game and a space simulator. The title was almost entirely designed by a single person – Paul Zakrzewski, an independent developer. The player assumes the role of a general who comes back from a retirement when an intergalactic conflict begins. The game takes place near the so-called Sun Gate, an installation which enables people to quickly travel between planetary systems. The gameplay focuses on building bases, gathering resources, constructing fleets, researching technologies, participating in diplomacy and conquering. Like in the cult classic Homeworld, in Void Destroyer the player participates in fully three-dimensional space battles. The player can participate in battles as a general who leads their units in a strategic manner or he can take control of a single ship and fight directly. The game features an active pause that can be activated at any point of the fight in order to give orders to units by using a tactical view.

A survival sandbox with space sim features focused on online play. Hellion invites the players to a distant future in which humanity organized an intergalactic colonization mission. Together with a million of other colonizers, the player is sent to a distant star system. After awakening from a decades-long cryogenic sleep, the protagonist finds only ruined space stations and shipwrecks. Together with a small group of other survivors, he must survive in hostile environment and find the reasons for the failure of his mission. Since the fight for survival takes place in space, in addition to searching for resources, crafting and maintaining good health, one must also maintain his ship. Hellion offers high level of realism when it comes to physics, sound dispersion and impact of damage on equipment behavior. Both exploration and controlling larger ships requires the players to cooperate with each other. Some players can turn out to be traitors. When fights happen, one can use advanced weapons.

A space simulator which offers the players an opportunity to participate in huge battles involving hundreds of players and stretching across entire planetary system. Three powerful factions compete against one another in the war-ridden world of Infinity: Battlescape. Each of the factions has a network of space stations and defensive systems, as well as fleets comprised of combat ships. The ships come in various types, such as fighters, bombers, corvettes, huge cruisers or carriers - all of them can be controlled by the players. The goal of each party involved in the conflict is to destroy enemy forces and infrastructure. However, because the fighting takes place both in outer space and within atmospheres of different planets, achieving the ultimate victory is quite time-consuming. The game offers realistic flight physics, as the game takes such factors into account as density of atmosphere or gravitational phenomena. As an addition to the multiplayer experience, the creators included a single player sandbox mode. Infinity: Battlescape utilizes the in-house I-Novae Engine, which made it possible to create an enormous, open and procedurally-generated universe.

A multiplayer action game developed by Pixel Federation. The players take part in space battles using ships built from a hodgepodge of parts found on space junkyards. The parameters and battle role of the individual ships is determined by the type of the ship (from a maneuverable frigate to a heavy battleship) and the chosen armament. Our ships can carry various weaponry, including rockets, lasers, or Gauss cannons. Additionally, we can also make use of useful modules, enabling us to immobilize an enemy or activate a defensive shield. The game revolves around team on team clashes – each match sees intense combat that involves locating our enemies and fighting on long distances – at the same time, the arenas contain numerous objects and space debris forcing us to maneuver or maintain a good heading. Aside from that, we are also given access to a special practice mode. Galactic Junk League is characterized by decent 3D graphics, while the game itself is distributed in a free-to-play model with microtransactions.

A multiplayer-oriented action game set in space, developed by the creators of Strike Suit Zero series, Edge Case Games Studio. The game doesn’t offer much of a backstory though, focusing on online skirmishes for teams of up to five players. Each players takes control of a powerful ship belonging to one of several classes, each equipped with a different set of on-board system and weaponry. However, every capital ship is the core of an armada of smaller ships, which we control like units in classic RTS titles. As we progress through the game, those units can be upgraded, and their detailed layouts can be decide separately. The outcomes of battles between factions shape the game's the universe.

Star Trek: Bridge Crew is set in the cinematic universe based on the popular science-fiction TV series. During the game, you explore a previously unknown region of the galaxy, known as the Trench, in search for a new home for the Vulcan race. The gameplay was designed with a co-op mode for four players in mind, and each player becomes a different crew member of the ship. The positions to choose from are: Captain, Helmsman, Engineer, and Tactical Officer. Each of them has unique duties, which you perform by using the ship's equipment in the virtual world. Star Trek: Bridge Crew features attractive 3D visuals, stylized to resemble the game's movie predecessor.

Nimbatus: The Space Drone Constructor is a 2D dexterity simulator, in which we build more and more perfect drones from available parts. The player has to adapt the machine parameters to a specific mission using a special editor or take into account the annihilation of the drona by enemy robots. A bit of engineering inventiveness is also useful - in some tasks manoeuvrable scouts will perform better, while others require large combat platforms.

You have to e.g. recruit your crew and appoint them to their respective positions, all the while managing the ship's equipment and finances. During the game you go through many adventures, participate in trade and establish diplomatic relations, as well as fight various enemies. Thanks to the combination of many genres, Interstellaria is a very expansive game, which also makes it very difficult. The production combines the oldschool visuals and audio layer with more modern elements (such as sandbox elements) and is a kind of tribute for classic productions of the 1980s and 1990s, absorbing mostly due to their complex and interesting gameplay.

This is also why the game does not deliver spectacular battle sequences, and the key aspect of the gameplay is to use the stealthy approach and avoid confrontation with large groups of enemies. In order to succeed, one has to properly manage their energy and resources and make a number of difficult decisions. The players, more than once, have to decide which systems of the vessel are to remain active, and which should be shut down.

Entropy starts with the usual – the creation of our hero, and choosing the first ship which will allow us to traverse an enormous, open universe, constantly shaped by the actions of the individual players. The game offers impressive freedom in choosing your way, so there is a place for advocates of free exploration, as well as for trade enthusiasts, who, thanks to the knowledge of the basic market rules, can easily grow wealthy by trading goods. One of the most important elements of the game is combat, allowing clashes with up to 100 players at once. To increase their chances in a dogfight, each player has to develop his character, and upgrade his ship, improving its offensive and defensive capabilities.

A space sandbox from a group of developers known for the arcade racing game called Pressure. Cosmonautica allows us to become a captain of a spaceship, his objective being to build a small trading company. The player can explore the galaxy, comprised of randomly generated star systems, and search for various goods that are capable of bringing a profit. During our visits in spaceports, we can take up tasks that may end up in a fight. Management of the ship and its crew is an important aspect of the game – the vessel requires constant refuels, repairs, and modifications to stay competitive, while our crew has to be taken care of, and assigned to various tasks, all while making sure that the individual crew members want to cooperate with each other. Aside from the sandbox mode, the game contains the ability to create and take part in single scenarios. Cosmonautica is characterized by simple cartoonish visuals.
