GTA The Trilogy: The Definitive Edition Officially Announced; Coming „Soon”

Grand Theft Auto The Trilogy: The Definitive Edition has been officially announced. Rockstar Games released a short teaser of the set today. We are to expect it „soon”.

Rumors that have been circulating the web for some time now, that Rockstar Games is preparing remasters of the first three 3D installments of the Grand Theft Auto series, i.e. GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas, have been confirmed. Today, at 8:00 AM PT, a short teaser of Grand Theft Auto The Trilogy: The Definitive Edition appeared on Rockstar's Twitter account. The video informs that the game release will take place "soon" - we can expect it still in 2021 on PC, PS4, PS5, XOne, XSX|S and Switch, and in the first half of 2022 also on Android and iOS devices.

Rockstar Games announced that the release of the refreshed versions of these iconic titles is a way to celebrate the 20th birthday of GTA 3, which falls on October 23. However, it does not seem that we will get Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition so soon.

Significantly, all three titles in the set will receive comprehensive upgrades - both visually and gameplay-wise. However, the developers have stated that they wanted to retain the classic look and style of the originals, so we probably shouldn't expect extensive changes - this is a remaster, not a remake, after all.

Moreover, starting next week the classic versions of GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas will start disappearing from digital stores. By this move Rockstar Games wants to "prepare" for the release of refreshed editions. However, it does not seem that such a decision will meet with a warm reception of the community.

20th birthday of GTA 3 will also be celebrated in GTA Online. Expect to find special equipment to obtain, including commemorative clothing and paint jobs. The title is also set to get plenty of new content later this year - you can find details here.

Regardless of the excitement stirred by GTA: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition, the 20th birthday of the first 3D game in the series seems like a good excuse to announce... GTA 6. However, it does not look like Rockstar Games is planning to kill two birds with one stone. The more so as the release of the aforementioned GTA Online - and GTA 5 - on PS5 and XSX|S is to take place only in March 2022.
