PS5's Backward Compatibility With PS1, PS2 and PS3 Unconfirmed

Sony focuses on making as many PS4 games as possible compatible with PS5, but remains silent about older platforms.

We still don't know much about the backwards compatibility of the PS5.

The launch of PlayStation 5 is cclosing in fast and Sony's marketing department has been doubling and tripling its efforts to sell its idea to people who want new quality that their ninth generation console is said to deliver. All the promises focus on realistic graphics, SSD capabilities or things never before seen in video games - even on a PC. However, a large number of people are more interested in whether and what games they already own will be playable on the new console, because, as is usual in the first months of a new hardware's exitence, there are simply not many games available compared to the previous generation.

As we wrote in March, up to 4000 PS4 game can be run on PS5, but what about games from PS3, PS2 and PS1? In Sony's comment for GameSpark, we can read that the Japanese company is focusing on making PS4 games run on PS5 as fast as possible and have nothing to say about how games from their older consoles run on PlayStation 5.

Sony doesn't want to officially confirm whether backwards compatibility for consoles older than PlayStation 4 will be provided at all, while Microsoft has already announced a plan for virtually full compatibility with all its previous consoles some time ago, and many games are even expected to get a graphic 'upgrade'. Faced with analysis and rumors that the PS5 could sell better, the issue of backwards compatibility could be crucial to Xbox's possible success. However, it can be assumed that if the competition speaks so boldly and loudly about their plans, Sony will respond in kind and we will get more information shortly.
