Resident Evil Village Sells Much Faster Than RE7

Resident Evil Village has already sold over five million copies. The game has achieved this impressive result almost twice as fast as Resident Evil 7: Biohazard.

Capcom announced that Resident Evil Village has already sold 5 million copies, while the sales of the entire series exceeded 100 million units.

The game was released on May 7 this year on PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S and PS5 and in the Stadia service. The project's debut turned out to be a great success - Resident Evil Village sold 3 million copies within just a few days. By May 27, the result grew to 4 million, and in early July it was already 4.5 million.

Capcom emphasizes that RE Village is selling faster than Resident Evil VII: Biohazard. The seventh installment has sold over 10 million copies so far. The publisher hopes that the total sales of the 8th game will be even higher. There are good chances for that, because Resident Evil 7 needed ten months to surpass the 4 million copy mark, while Resident Evil Village reached 5 million copies in less than six months.

RE Village also wins against the bestselling Resident Evil 2. The remake of the second part sold 5 million copies only eleven months after launch.

Judging by the history of the series, Resident Evil Village will be selling well for many more years. The pace so far makes it quite likely to become the biggest bestseller in the series' history. Next year, it can also expect an increase in interest, because that's when the repeatedly delayed free online module Resident Evil RE:Verse will debut, which enables players to take part in six-player deathmatch battles. Production of the first story DLC has also begun.
