Capcom Boasts of Resident Evil Village's Excellent Sales

Capcom has announced that sales of Resident Evil Village have surpassed 4 million copies across all platforms less than a month after its worldwide release.

Today, an information that Resident Evil Village has sold over 4 million copies in total, has appeared on Capcom's website. We don't know the exact figure, but we know that it includes releases for all available platforms, including digital editions and pre-orders. Pretty good for a title that released on May 7 - less than 3 weeks ago. For comparison: Resident Evil VII, which launched on January 24, 2017, has shipped 9 million units in over 4 years, that is, until March 31, 2021.

The Japanese company did not write it explicitly, but the very fact that time and again they boast about sales figures - 4 days after the release we informed you about 3 million copies being shipped - means that are satisfied with the results achieved by the latest installment of the series. Village not only delighted the reviewers, but also dominated Steam, where it set a new activity record for the series. Our review of the eighth Resident can be found in the link below.

Factors, which determined the success of Village are numerous. An absorbing, well conducted story. Interesting, memorable antagonists, among which Lady Dimitrescu, dominating in the marketing campaign, didn't stand out as much as one could expect. The game's diversity in terms of visuals and gameplay. Finally, the audiovisuals and the decent technical condition on release day. These are all things that not every modern big-budget title can boast. Suffice it to say that on the way to great sales of Resident Evil Village was hindered neither by the lack of a localization in some countries, nor by accusations of plagiarism, or by the VR mode which caused nausea in some players.

And even though over 4 million copies sold so far is less than the 10 million that Capcom hoped for before the release, it seems that the new title of the Japanese company has a real chance to achieve this result. The eighth installment of the Resident Evil series was released on PC, PS4, PS5, XONE, XSX|S and Google Stadia.
