Rockstar Games Loses Key Developer; Could Affect Studio's Future Games

Rockstar Games has lost screenwriter Mike Unsworth, who played a key role in the work on several of the developer's recent hits.

1. Mike Unsworth spent sixteen years at Rockstar. He joined the team in 2007 as a senior screenwriter, and his last position (as of 2021) was deputy director of the story department.
2. Among other projects, Unsworth has worked on GTA4 and GTA5, L.A. Noire, Max Payne 3, Red Dead Redemption and RDR 2.
3. For Red Dead Redemption 2 Unsworth was one of the three lead writers. It is worth noting that another developer of the three, Dan Houser, left the Rockstar Games in 2020.
4. Unsworth's departure is not expected to have a negative impact on Grand Theft Auto VI. This game is already at a very advanced stage of work and its storyline has most likely already been finalized.
5. Greater concerns can be had about Rockstar Games productions, which will be developed after GTA6. This is one of the most successful teams in the industry, so it should have no problem recruiting new talented screenwriters. The question, however, is whether they will be able to maintain the specific style of storytelling that the developer's games are famous for.

Recall that Red Dead Redemption 2 debuted in 2018 on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles, with a PC port released a year later.

In contrast, we still do not know when Grand Theft Auto 6 will debut. Fans are so hungry for information about the project that one of them recently interrupted a live TV show demanding any details about the game. Financial projections of publisher Take-Two Interactive suggest only that the release will take place between April 2024 and March 2025.
